Glock Gun Cake

Even though I grew up in a family of hunters and gun enthusiasts, I have to tell you I don’t know much about them when it comes to details – especially pistols.
I did enjoy hunting myself when I was younger (with a shotgun or rifle), but I haven’t been in years…. unless you count when I shot that snake out of a tree last year. So I guess I can handle a gun if I have to…. I just don’t do it all that often anymore.
Anywho – when asked to make a gun in the shape of a Glock 9mm gun… I had to do a quick search to see exactly what it looked like. I mean, I knew it was a pistol and I thought it was one of those sleek-styled guns (vs. a revolver), but that’s about it.
My husband, Daddy, and brothers are all exasperated right now (or they would be if they read my blog 😉 ). Oh well…

So this is it – my Glock cake. I can’t even remember many details or the size of it except it was big. And red velvet on the inside and I covered and decorated it with Satin Ice Black fondant. I did take a picture for reference… that’s a full-size un-sharpened pencil next to it. Bigger than you thought, huh?
There is one more thing I can tell you. One of my kids – I think the oldest one – dropped a book on the barrel of the gun just before I was ready to box it up. He sort of messed up the end…

I was pretty upset, but there was no time to do any kind of serious repair or start over, so I just smooshed around and reshaped it as best I could. The ding on the top side was the worst of it, but still… I was not a happy lady!
Thank goodness, my client was still thrilled with the cake and she told me later that her police officer husband also loved it! At the end of the night, it was all eaten and nobody cared all that much that it wasn’t perfect. Gotta love having clients who are laid back and understanding!
And that’s that.
Do you have any questions about this cake? Leave me a comment and I’ll answer and help out if I can!
This is soooo cool.
I was thinking trying to do a cake like the gun cake you did. I like it.
Are you going to do a tutorial on the gun cake?
What is the gun made out of? What materials did you use?
Thank you in advance
It’s all cake covered in fondant.
Hi, my name is Amanda and I’m at home. Baker and I have been asked to do a cake in the shape of a Glock 9 mm. I was wondering if you could explain to me how you shaped the cake into the shape of a gun and what tools did you use to do it? Did you draw a picture first? Please let me know so that I can see if I can do that for this upcoming gun cake design, I have an asked to do. Thank you so much!
It’s been almost 10 years since I made this cake so I’m afraid I can’t offer much. I think I baked a square cake and cut it in half then flipped one side up to make the “L” or gun shape. I coverd it in black fondant then used some modeling tools to make the different texture and lines. I probably used solid fondant for the trigger and just pinched the fondant out to make the grip. At least that’s how I’d approach it now.
