Splattered Bright Candy Apples

Splattered Bright Candy Apples

I’ll have to share more details another day (I’m really tired tonight with lots of work to do still) … but I had an order for some bright candy apples tonight and as I finished up, I realized I had quite a bit of extra candy and apples… so I made these Splattered Bright Candy Apples! Aren’t they fun?

I couldn’t wait to share the pics… I know lots of people make candy apples this time of year and I wanted to get this idea out there!

I used the Purple (Grape) Candy Apple Magic Mix, the Green (Lime) Candy Apple Magic Mix, and I made Hot Pink candy using my homemade candy apple recipe (with cotton candy flavoring).

I had already stocked up on the pre-made mix from Sugarcraft.com awhile back, but if you wanted, you could do all of these colors “from scratch” using my recipe and not have to buy any pre-made mix (it doesn’t come in all colors anyway).

Keep reading to the bottom for the full recipe or you can download the free printable recipe below when you sign up for my email newsletter!

I used Granny Smith apples and dipped them all in solid colors, then splattered with leftover candy… and I’m in love! My kids love them too… they’re already fighting over them!

Be sure to read all the details over here and browse through the comments there too, but if you still have questions after that… let me know!

  1. My sister wants candy apples as favors for her fas approaching wedding and I happened upon your website when I was looking for tips on making them. Goodness am I glad I did!! She loves the colors and now I’m doing pink and purple instead of traditional red. Can you offer any suggestion on other flavors of the LorAnn Flavoring Oils that you have tried which I can use for the pink? Thank you!!! P.s. I would love to see you do a candy apple design in layers or rainbow. 🙂

  2. Hi Rose

I make these candy apples all the time, huge hit. I have a question when I was reading about your splashed ones, when u say “left over candy” what do u do with it, I didnt realize you can use the left over candy again, I always leftovers as well, it goes to waste.

    Thank you
    Julie

    1. Well, in this case, I had orders for a bunch of solid colored apples, so when I finished those, I quickly splattered some of the leftover candy (that I had kept on the burner on very, very low heat) onto some extra apples (or the ones that didn’t turn out so pretty). You can rewarm it (very carefully) immediately after you make it (if it starts to harden a bit), but as far as I know, there’s no way to use it beyond that. Once I tried to reheat it a couple of hours later and the color changed and it tasted burned. As for the extra that’s usually leftover, I always buy extra apples and give some to my kids, my siblings and parents, etc. just to use it up!

  4. Hi these candy apple look great but I can not find your recipe for the splattered apples is there another link?

    1. It’s not really a different recipe. I made the 3 different colors – dipped lots of apples, then used the extra candy in each pot to splatter the apples. I simply dipped a fork in the candy, then flicked it over/around the apples. I hope that helps 🙂

  10. Hey Rose
Thank you for your recipes by the way. I wanted to know of you ever put designs on the apples like ribbons for breast cancer month. And if you did how.

    1. I haven’t ever done that, but you could probably make the ribbons out of modeling chocolate or poured chocolate and just “glue” them on the front (with corn syrup or melted chocolate).

  20. Hi Rose!

Love your stuff! I teach culinary arts and we have been playing around with the colors, only problem is we get white spots. Is this because we dont start with all the food dye together? We have been adding it in at the end like a normal candy apple.

Anyway love your stuff and the site! Please help!

    Niko

    1. I’ve had that happen too. I think it has to do with the brand or age of the white food coloring. When mine gets older, it seems to separate and cause the white spots.

  21. Okay thanks! I am trying it again this week with another brand , hopefully it comes out without the speckling…

  22. Hello Rose. I read on someone’s you tube that they let their apples say for 12 to 48 hours to remove wax etc. before dipping them. My question to you is this a properly way to clean your apples? I’m new to making candy apples and I was trying to find a method that works for me. I noticed when they let them sit out for that long, the apples turn brown. Thanks
