How to Make Grinch Pretzels
These easy Grinch Pretzels are crunchy, salty, sweet, and festive! They come together in just a few easy steps: mini pretzel twists are dipped in green candy melts and topped with a tiny red heart to create an adorable Grinch-inspired Christmas treat.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Place the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 15- to 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.

- Dip each pretzel into the melted candy melts. Lift it out with a fork and allow the excess chocolate to drip off. Place the dipped pretzels in a single layer on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Before the candy hardens, place one red heart sprinkle on each pretzel to represent the Grinch’s heart.

- Let the pretzels set at room temperature until hardened, or refrigerate for about 10 minutes to speed up the process.

Can I Use White Chocolate Instead of Candy Melts?
Yes! If you don’t have green candy melts, you could make green melted chocolate using white chocolate chips or white melting chocolate and green candy coloring.
Be sure to use an oil-based or candy-safe food coloring. Regular water-based food coloring can cause melted chocolate to seize.
For the easiest option and brightest Grinch color, though, I prefer light green candy melts.
Pro Tip: For me, it’s always easier to find dark green candy melts, so I sometimes use those mixed with white candy melts to dilute the color.

There are lots of ways you could put a fun twist on this easy treat.
Instead of dipping the entire pretzel, dip part of it in green candy and add lines of chocolate in a zigzag pattern over the top.
You could also drizzle a small amount of red candy melts over the green pretzels before adding the heart.
For another sweet-and-salty variation, add soft caramels or caramel chews to create a caramel pretzel candy.
And if you love the idea but want something bigger, use pretzel rods instead of twists. Dip them in a tall glass filled with melted green candy and add a candy heart to make easy Grinch pretzel rods (sort of like these Cactus Pretzel Rods… but with a heart).

How to Store Grinch Pretzels
- Once the candy has completely hardened, transfer the pretzels to an airtight container.
- Keep them at room temperature for up to one week. There’s no need to refrigerate them once the candy coating has set.
- For the best texture, keep them somewhere cool and dry so the pretzels stay crunchy.
Grinch PretzelsRecipe for Parties and Gifts
These Grinch Pretzels are a perfect addition to a Grinch-themed dessert table or holiday party.
Serve them alongside other delicious treats such as Grinch Cookies, Grinch Cupcakes, Grinch Fudge, Grinch OREO Balls, or Grinch Rice Krispies Treats. Add a bowl of Grinch Punch, and you’ve got an entire Grinch-themed party spread!
You could even create a Grinch Charcuterie board and add several of these treats!
They’re also a cute option for classroom treats. After the candy has completely hardened, package a few pretzels in individual clear bags and tie them with Christmas ribbon.
You could also fill small mason jars with the pretzels for an easy homemade Christmas gift.

Perfect for a Grinch Movie Night
One of my favorite ways to serve these is for a family movie night.
Make a batch of Grinch Pretzels, pour some Grinch Punch, and turn on the Grinch movie. They’re an easy salty snack with just enough sweetness to make movie night feel special.
Whether your family watches How the Grinch Stole Christmas every year or you’re introducing it to the kids for the first time, these pretzels are a fun way to turn one of your favorite Christmas movies into a whole themed night.
FAQs
Can I make Grinch Pretzels ahead of time?
Yes! These are a great make-ahead easy treat because they’ll keep for up to a week in an airtight container at room temperature. That makes them especially convenient when you’re preparing several desserts for Christmas parties.
Why are my candy melts too thick?
Candy melts can become thick if they’re overheated. Melt them in short bursts, stirring frequently. If needed, stir in a very small amount of coconut oil to thin the candy enough for dipping.
Can I use regular chocolate?
Yes, but you’ll need white chocolate so you can color it green. White chocolate chips can work, although candy melts are generally easier to use for dipping and give you that bright Grinch-green color.
Can I use different pretzels?
Absolutely. Mini pretzel twists are my favorite, but pretzel snaps work just as well. You can also use pretzel rods for a larger version.
How do I keep the heart sprinkle from falling off?
Add the heart immediately after dipping each pretzel, while the green candy is still wet. Once the coating hardens, the sprinkle should stay firmly attached.
