My Long Weekend… Family, Friends, Cakes & Recipes!

Read more about the blue candy apples here.

I’ve really been missing you guys the last few days!! I didn’t mean to be away, but you know, sometimes life just happens that way and my online life has to take a backseat to my real life.

Before I tell you about that… would you do me a quick favor? Would you hop over to Sweetopia and vote for my cake? If I get the most votes, I win an awesome Cake Ball Roller and I’d love to win!!  I won – thank you very much!!!

So… last week was crazy for me… in some ways good, some bad. Mostly the craziness was dominated by the fact that I had 10 cakes to bake (including 3 smash cakes) plus I had cookies, cupcakes, and {blue} candy apples to do (read more about them here).

It was totally my fault that I ended up overbooked, but I worked ahead as much as I could so it wouldn’t be so bad. My last one to deliver was this Vintage Lace Wedding cake... (more pics soon!).

I also had my friend Kristen coming to spend a day and night with me to work on cakes!

This picture (above) was from back in January when our families met for lunch and I met her (in person) for the first time…. but she was the same this weekend:  gorgeous and sweet and fun! I had my big mouth open… as usual!

She was here to learn some cake stuff (although I’m not sure I actually taught her anything) but she was also a huge help and it was great fun to have a girlfriend to chat and hang out with for 24 hours!

Then we had a game night planned here at our house… all of my siblings and their families were coming, plus my parents and some friends from church. That’s my family up there… all of us… back on Mother’s Day.

And yes… every single one of them were over here on Sunday night (plus some friends)… fun, fun, fun!!

We  My husband cooked delicious grilled ribs and I made scalloped potatoes (from the new Pioneer Woman cookbook… YUM!) and baked beans, plus a yummy Strawberry Spinach Salad that I’ll be sharing later in the week.

I also made Gooey Butter Bars for dessert… oh my gosh, am I glad everybody ate them up because they are not safe around me! I’ll also try to get around to sharing that recipe soon!

Anyway, as if all of that weren’t enough, yesterday hubby and I spent the day going from car dealership to car dealership looking for a new-to-us ride.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day all we had were cranky kids and sore bottoms from riding around for 10 hours… ouch!

So… that was my long (absent-from-the-blog) weekend! What did you do on the holiday weekend?  I’d love to hear!!
