There are two requirements for meals in our house: easy and delicious. This Spicy Sausage & Cheese Rigatoni meets both requirements and I can say with confidence, it will be a new family favorite! Made with NEW Ragu Homestyle pasta sauce, this meal comes together so easily... but you'd think it took all day in the kitchen!
A big "Thank you!" to Ragu for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me pass on my family traditions.
Congratulations to Sheila S. who won the $10 Paypal Cash!
I've mentioned this often, but my best friend lives in Italy and a few years ago, she taught me to make authentic Italian homemade red sauce. Since then, my family has been completely spoiled and lost interest in jarred spaghetti sauces.
Until now...
As soon as I tasted the new Homestyle Ragu pasta sauce, I immediately knew it was a winner. The sauce is sweet and chunky - full of spices and real veggies. I'm not kidding you when I say that my family genuinely loved this sauce as much as they love the homemade version.
And while I've always loved pasta, as I've learned to cook more and more from scratch, it's become a staple that we have at least once or twice a week. And in the midst of becoming pasta crazy, in the last year or two, my family has also grown to love Italian Sausage... so I decided to change up our pasta routine and try a new recipe this week... combining this amazing sauce with some spicy Italian sausage!
Here's what you'll need to make this recipe:
Spicy Sausage & Cheese Pasta Recipe
- 1 pound dry pasta - I used mezzi rigatoni
- salt, for the water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ pounds spicy Italian sausage
- 2 (24 ounce) jars Ragu Homestyle Thick & Hearty Roasted Garlic Sauce
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ½ cup shredded parmesan
- salt, to taste
- 2 teaspoons fresh or dried parsley, for garnish
Is your mouth watering yet? It should be! Scroll to the bottom for the full recipe, but before you go, how would you like to try the new Homestyle Ragu Pasta Sauces?

Spicy Sausage & Cheese Pasta
- Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
- Yield: 8 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 1 pound dry pasta - I used mezzi rigatoni
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ pounds spicy Italian sausage
- 2 (24 ounce) jars Ragu Homestyle Thick & Hearty Roasted Garlic Sauce
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ½ cup shredded parmesan
- 2 teaspoons fresh or dried parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Add about 2 tablespoons of salt into a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Cook the pasta for 2 minutes less than recommended on the package. I undercook the pasta at this stage because it will cook again later and I don't like overcooked pasta! Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil, then add in the onion and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the onion is clear. Remove the sausage from the casing and crumble it into the skillet. Cook until done, then drain any excess grease.
- Pour in the 2 jars of Ragu Homestyle sauce, mix into the sausage, then heat until simmering; around 5 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- To assemble the recipe, start by spreading some sauce in the bottom of a rectangle baking dish. Then pour in about half the pasta. Top with half the mozzarella, then half the sauce. Repeat these steps. Sprinkle the parmesan and parsley over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly. Enjoy!!
- Prep Time: 30 mins
- Cook Time: 35 mins
- Category: Main
- Cuisine: Italian
