This Tiramisu Brownie Trifle might be the best dessert I've made in a long time. And I make a lot of desserts ya'll. This trifle is layers and layers of brownies, creamy whipped cream-cheese filling and coffee-soaked lady fingers. It's so, SO good.
After making it the first time, and having it completely disappear at our Wednesday night Bible study and having lots of complaints from those who didn't get any, I immediately made it again on Sunday.
Tiramisu is my favorite dessert and that's no secret but brownies are also on my list of my most favorite sweets to eat. So when I was presented with the idea to dream up a new dessert with Pillsbury™ Purely Simple™ Chocolate Chunk Brownie Mix as the star, I figured I could have the best of bold worlds... brownies and tiramisu.
Besides, when I was on a kick making Tiramisu every other week, I might have accidentally ordered a case of lady fingers when I thought I was ordering um... less than that. Ha. And having packages of almost 3oo lady fingers sitting around will definitely inspire you to make new/more desserts with them! Who wants to waste lady fingers?! Not me!
Anywho... making this Tiramisu Brownie Trifle was a good great decision. A super-great-awesome decision, if I might say so myself.
The foundation of this dessert is the new Pillsbury™ Purely Simple™ Chocolate Chunk Brownie Mix. And I couldn't be more impressed with these brownies if I tried.
Not only are these brownies delicious - and I love the added texture of the chocolate chunks - but Pillsbury Purely Simple mixes contain no colors, preservatives, or artificial flavors for a truly homemade taste! How awesome is that?!
I found Pillsbury Purely Simple mixes at Kroger! You can even print a coupon to save $0.50/1 box here (Available: 10/19-11/15 Exp. 11/30). Once you have the brownie mixes and all of the other ingredients you need, it's time to get busy baking!
Start by mixing up two boxes of brownie mix and baking according to the package directions! Since you're doing two boxes, you can bake it all in one 9" x 13" pan.
When the brownies are done, allow them to completely cool, then flip them out onto a cutting board and cut them into small 1" squares.
To prepare the filling, begin by beating the heaving whipping cream until it reaches soft peaks. I prefer to do this in my stand mixer with a whisk attachment.
Then prep the coffee mixture by dissolving the instant coffee granules in the hot water, then mix that with the coffee liquor.
In a separate bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar and ½ cup of the coffee mixture until it's smooth and creamy.
Gently fold in the whipped cream just until combined (don't over-mix or the whipped cream will begin to deflate).
Get ready to layer the trifle by first pouring some of the coffee mixture into a very shallow dish and getting all the other components together with your trifle dish.
In your trifle dish, begin by putting down a layer of brownie cubes. Spread a layer of cream cheese filling over the brownies.
Then dip the lady fingers in the coffee mixture for just a few seconds on each side, and add a layer of those. I dip them one at a time while making the layer. If you dip them ahead of time, they'll fall apart! *You may want to break up the lady fingers into smaller pieces. I didn't break them up much, but I did have to break some in half to cover the cream cheese filling.
Top the lady fingers with more cream cheese filling and repeat those 4 layers again, then garnish the top with any leftover brownies.
Chill for 4 hours - then enjoy!! This dessert is simply scrumptious!!
