We're packing up and cleaning out the frig and getting ready to leave on a nearly 5000 mile road trip... so this is gonna be short 🙂 I do plan on blogging while we travel (be sure to sign up for Rose Atwater emails if you want to "travel" with us), but if I happen to fall behind on posting, you'll know why! Curious where we're going... a rough draft of our route is here.
When I decided I wanted to get one last post up, I thought this Rocket Ship Cake and Cookies would be a appropriate... I might feel like I've been shot out of a rocket by the time this journey is over 😉 Haha!
Anywho - I did this sweet little cake last weekend! My client sent me a picture from The Cake Blog (cake created by The Couture Cakery) and asked that I only change the topper. She really loved the cake as it was (what's not to love?), so I did my best to replicate it.
She needed around 30 servings but I made it a tiny bit bigger so I could give the bottom tier the height it needed for the design. I had (3) 8 round layers on the bottom and (2) 5" round layers on the top tier.
The cake was white cake (no almond) with vanilla buttercream and covered and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant. I sort of used Corrie's method for making the rocket (mine had a lot less detail) and then other generic cutters and mini cutters for the rest of the decor.
NOTE: You can still get Corrie's Class for only $14.99 through MY link here... that's $20 off the regular price so don't miss this limited time offer!!
And guess what else?? I made cookies to go with the cake!
I had a rough time with the cookies. Well - before the cookies. I ordered a rocket ship cutter that got lost in the mail, so I had to get inventive to make them. I ended up finding a coffin cutter in my stash and I bent it to make the rocket shape. They weren't exactly what I had in mind, but they worked.
THEN, after all that (it was a really rough week if you remember), I found a rocket cutter in a box that I had ordered and forgotten about and the lost one was delivered. Talk about frustrating! By the way, thank you all so much for your comments and emails and prayers that week... it means so much! xx
SO - you won't find this rocket ship cutter shape anywhere... it's an "original"... hehe. But it ended up working out okay and the cookies were cute regardless!
So there you go... my Rocket Ship Cake and Cookies!
