Red White and Blue Jello Shots

Red White and Blue Jello Shots are easy to make and are perfect for so many fun occasions! This layered jello shots recipe makes as many as 50 shots and can be made non-alcoholic if you like! Perfect for patriotic holidays including a 4th of July celebration, a Labor Day or Memorial Day party, Veteran’s Day event, or even the upcoming Olympics!

Red White and Blue Jello Shots

I planned to share this new recipe for Fourth of July Jello Shots in June or at least earlier this month but time got away from me when sharing all of my other red, white and blue recipes. But if you always host a Fourth of July party, then be sure to pin this recipe to save for next 4th of July or any of the other summer holidays!

Then I remembered the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris and thought these American Flag Jello Shots would be perfect if you’re hosting an Olympics watch-party or celebration and cheering for the USA! Personally I love the Olympics and can’t wait for the games to get started.

Patriotic Jello Shots

These are fun shots to make and while they look like fancy jello shots, they’re really not hard to put together. You just have to be patient and make them ahead of time because the red white blue jello shots do take several hours (with the chill time between layers).

Supplies & Tools Needed

Other than the shot cups, you don’t need any special tools or equipment for this red white and blue jello shots recipe.

  • 1 ounce jello shot cups or whatever size small plastic cups you prefer. Unless you have that many glass shot glasses, you will need to buy these or order them ahead of time. I love using plastic disposable shot glasses because there’s less cleanup, and I don’t have to try to keep up with or store a whole slew of shot glasses. This recipe will make 45-50 1-ounce layered shots, obviously less if you’re using larger cups.
  • Small saucepan or pot to boil water. Or grab an Electric Kettle (my new favorite kitchen tool – and, of course, mine is pink) for fast-boiled water!
  • A large tray or cookie sheet to hold all the shot glasses when you place them in the refrigerator

Ingredients for American Flag Jello Shots

red white and blue jello shots ingredients on a marble surface in clear and white containers

Blue Jello Layer (Bottom):

  • Blue Jello (e.g., Berry Blue Jello)
  • Water
  • Vodka

 White Jello Layer (Middle):

Red Jello Layer (Top):

  • Red Jello (e.g., Raspberry, Cherry or Strawberry Jello)
  • Water
  • Vodka

Note: If you don’t keep a lot of alcohol on hand, you only need 1 cup of vodka to make these Jell-O shots, so a small bottle will work. Or, if you’re making non-alcoholic Jello shots, then you won’t need any at all.

See the recipe card at the bottom for the full ingredients list and instructions.

For Garnish:

  • Whipped cream or Cool Whip – I much much prefer homemade whipped cream or Redi-Wip
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles, star sprinkles or edible glitter would be fun! Any patriotic sprinkles will add something to these fun patriotic jello shots

Substitutions

I always use unflavored vodka but it would be a fun twist to use a flavored vodka for this boozy treat. It would just add a little extra flavor to the red white and blue shots!

How to Make Red White and Blue Jello Shots

As previously mentioned, this layered shots recipe takes more than a little time, but it’s worth it for these delicious 4th of July Jello Shots! They will be a huge hit at your July 4th party or any other summer party.

Blue Layer

  1. First is the blue layer (bottom): Dissolve the blue gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water.
  2. Mix in ½ cup vodka and ½ cup of water.
  3. Pour the blue jello mixture into your 1 oz shot glasses, filling up to one-third of the way. Place in the refrigerator to set, about 2-3 hours.

White Layer

  1. The next layer is the white layer (middle): Sprinkle 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin over ½ cup of cold water. Let it sit for a few minutes to “bloom.”
  2. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  3. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until well mixed. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
  4. Once the blue layer of Jello is set, gently pour the white gelatin mixture over the top of the blue layer to fill another third of the glasses. Return to the refrigerator and let set for another 2-3 hours.

  1. For the last layer, the red layer (top): Dissolve the red Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.
  2. Mix in ½ cup vodka and ½ cup cold water.
  3. Once the white layer is set, carefully add the red layer on top of the white layer, filling up to the top of the small plastic shot glasses. Refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours or overnight for best results.
  4. Garnish: Just before serving, top each Jell-O shot with a small dollop of whipped cream.
  5. Sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles over the whipped cream for a festive finish to these 4th of July shots.

  • If using 1.5-ounce shot glasses, the recipe will yield 27-33 shots.
  • If using 2-ounce shot glasses, the recipe will yield 20-25 shots.
  • If using 3-ounce shot glasses (which is a really big shot 😉) the recipe will yield 13-17 shots)

For kids or a sober party or whatever the event might be, I’ve included the recipe for red white and blue shots without alcohol below.

Patriotic Jello Cups (Non-Alcoholic)

This is basically the same jello shot recipe as the alcoholic recipe, except the amount of water is adjusted since there is no alcohol in this recipe. It’s perfect for a sober party or if you have kids in your group of party guests!

The 1/2 cup of alcohol is replaced with extra 1/2 cups of water in each step. It’s the perfect patriotic treat full of fruity flavors that’s fun even without alcohol.

Ingredients:

Blue Layer (Bottom):

  • 1 box of blue Jell-O (e.g., Berry Blue or Ocean Water)
