Ingredients for the Caramel Apple Jello Shots Recipe
These are pretty basic ingredients that should be easy to find at your local grocery store and liquor store.
- Sonic Green Apple Jello Mix
- Boiling Water
- Caramel Vodka
- Whipped Cream (optional garnish)
- Caramel Sauce (optional garnish)
- Fresh Apples (optional Garnish) - green apples "match" these shots the best!
- Caramels (optional garnish)
How to Make Caramel Apple Jello Shots
- Pour green jello powder into a medium bowl.
- Boil water in a small saucepan, then pour over the gelatin and stir until the jello fully dissolves.
- Add the caramel vodka and stir again.
- Pour the jello mixture into a pourable measuring cup, or something similar.
- Line up your plastic shot glasses (or glass ones) on a moveable surface such as a tray or baking sheet.
- Fill the shot cups about ¾ of the way full with the caramel jello mixture.
- Chill for 2 hours or until fully set.
- If desired, use a frosting bag and frosting tip to add a dollop of whipped topping to the top of every shot. You can also add a small layer of caramel sauce (or just a drizzle) with an apple slice and enjoy!
Variations
Try a different drink! Butterscotch Schnapps is another drink you could use instead of Caramel Vodka for similar Fall flavors in these Green Apple Caramel Jello Shots.
Enjoy these delicious shots in actual apple slices! Cut apples in half then use a melon baller to remove the inside of the apples. Pour the jellos shots mixture into the apple halves. Place apples flesh-down in muffin tin cups to keep them level. Allow them to chill for at least 4 hours, then cut them into slices. Drizzle with caramel sauce. This would be so fun for your next Halloween party!
Non-Alcoholic Jello Cups
It's that time of year where your next party might include kids and adults. So if you're making a family-friendly version for kids or a mixed crowd, it's easy to whip up some delicious non-alcoholic jello cups! Instead of calling them “shots” for kids, which might sound a bit off, just call them Jello "Cups." 😜
To make them alcohol-free, simply replace the vodka with apple juice. This keeps the festive green color and the apple flavor while ensuring everyone can enjoy the fun! And you can still garnish them with creamy caramel sauce and whipped cream.
I recommend making them in the apple slices (check out the Variations above) or using plastic jello shot cups instead of glass.
Bonus: Kids will love helping with your next Fall party! They can stir the jello mixture, pour it into the cups, and decorate the set jello with the apple slices and caramel drizzle. It's the perfect way to do a fun, hands-on activity.
Pro Tips
- Do not garnish these if they need to be stored. To store, cover all shots with lids and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Do not freeze. Garnish when ready to serve.
- If you plan to garnish with real apples (Granny Smith apples are my fave!), you can use a paring knife to cut apples into thin slices and cover them with water to prevent them from turning brown. I always add a little lemon juice to the water too!
- If you want your shots thicker, simply reduce the alcohol by ⅓ cup. If you would like them thinner, add more alcohol, starting with ¼ cup.
- The jello flavor is very strong (you'll get a sour apple pucker), so I skipped apple vodka altogether.
- Jolly Rancher has a green apple jello that works perfectly as well.
- If you use the caramel squares as a garnish (instead of melted caramel), along with the whipped topping, I usually cut the caramel in half and it looks/fits better.
- If you're concerned about your green apple jello shots tipping over, you can place the shot glasses in the cups of a muffin pan. You'll need 2 pans (that hold a dozen each) for this jello shot recipe
