Ingredients for Sausage Balls with Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix
These simple ingredients are common and easy to find if you don't already have them on hand.
Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix including the Garlic Herb Blend seasoning packet that comes with the Red Lobster biscuit mix) - this mix is found on the baking aisle near baking mixes and flour.
Ground Breakfast Sausage (mild or spicy sausage) - I like the spice, but my family prefers mild breakfast sausage so I usually go with that.
Shredded Cheddar Cheese (sharp or medium are best). I much prefer to shred my own cheese, but I will use pre-shredded in a pinch!
Butter, melted (for topping). I always use salted butter. I doubt you'll notice much difference if you use unsalted butter.
How to Make Sausage Balls with Red Lobster Biscuit Mix
This is an easy recipe for the best sausage balls you'll ever have. It's a real crowd pleaser! After you make these Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Sausage Balls, you will be addicted!
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. If you don't have parchment paper, line it with a silicone mat or spray it with non-stick baking spray.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, shredded cheddar, and the Cheddar Bay Mix (do not prepare the biscuit mix as directed on the package; use it dry). Also, do not add the garlic herb blend from the box.
- Add ½ cup of water to the mixture and mix until well combined. The mixture will be sticky and this is why it's best to use a stand mixer if you have one!
- Using a small cookie scoop or a tablespoon, form the mixture into small balls (approximately 1-inch balls) and place the uncooked sausage balls on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-22 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.
- While the Red Lobster Biscuit Sausage Balls are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a small bowl and stir in the garlic herb blend from the biscuit mix.
- Once the sausage balls are done, remove them from the oven and immediately brush with the melted butter and garlic herb blend. Place them on paper towels to absorb any extra grease.
- Allow the sausage balls to cool slightly before serving.
Pro Tips
- Use your stand mixer if you have one. This Red Lobster Sausage Balls recipe is so much easier than mixing with a hand mixer or by hand.
- Use a cookie scoop! Again, it's much easier and less messy than having to roll them by hand.

Should you freeze before or after baking?
Susan
I've always frozen my sausage balls before baking. When I'm ready for them, I'll bake from frozen and add a couple of minutes to the bake time.
