A Barnyard Party: Barn Cake, Farm Animals Cupcakes & Cakepops
For the past two weeks, I’ve been sharing the Farm Animals Cupcake Toppers Series with you and now that it’s all done, I wanted to show you the whole Barnyard Party!
The design was centered around a big red barn cake! I started this cake with a 14″ square and carved it down on the top for the roof shape! It was a single layer of vanilla cake covered in vanilla buttercream and Satin Ice Red Vanilla fondant.
I used a wood grain impression mat to get the texture on the barn and trim, then I used a butter knife and a pointed tool from my gum paste tools set to make the nail holes and to really dig deeper on some of the wood grain!
In addition to the cake, there were of course, the barnyard cupcakes! If you want to see how to make each of these farm animal cupcake toppers – be sure to scroll through the entire Farm Animal Cupcake Toppers series.
And last but not least… the farm animal cake pops! I’ve done these before and they’re always fun! For this set, I did a chick, rooster, pig, cow and sheep! You can visit my first Farm Animals cake pops post for a list of supplies you’ll need to make these cutie-pies!
Did I miss any details? Do you have any questions about the cake, cupcakes, or cake pops? Please leave them in the comments!
Rose!!! I never saw this cake. It is sooooo cute! I love it! What a really neat idea. Wonderful job as usual. 🙂
Aww, thanks Kristen! It was a fun one to do!! xo
This is absolutely precious, so much better than the one I made about 8 years ago for my son’s first birthday. I didn’t use fondant and hadn’t learned about gel food coloring, so my barn was pink. I just said the paint had faded over the years. The farm animals are an adorable added touch too.
Thanks so much Bonny!! Ha – I love the “faded” barn idea… the fun thing is the kids don’t care! They love any cake – perfections and all! Especially the ones made by their Mommy with love!
This is adorable! My son loves barn animals so he would go crazy for this 🙂
🙂 I’ve done similar themes for boys and girls and all kids just seem to love it! Thank you 🙂
Very cute idea- and as always a wonderful concept.
Thanks so much Lovie!
Rose,
This is super cute! I love the barnyard animal cupcakes 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to Creative Thursday. Can’t wait to see what you share next week! Have a wonderful weekend.
Michelle
Thank you Michelle!! xo
Thank you so much for your amazing tutoriall! I love your cakes and your clear instructions gave me the courage to try my first ever fondant cake (using your recipes) for my son’s farm-themed second birthday party. I love how it turned out! I’ll be referring others to your site for recipes, tutorials, and inspiration! 🙂
Yay!!!! That makes me so happy to hear! Congratulations 🙂
OMG! These are so cute! I love the little pig. Thanks for sharing!
Hi There Rose! What a great master pieces you got in there! Good job, they are all awesome.
How can I contact you? I wanted some of this for my baby boy’s first birthday. You can contact me at 917-557-0066
I’m in Mississippi, so I couldn’t do a cake for you. Sorry!
Unless you live in my local area (Meadville, MS), I would not be able to help you.
Noted and thank you rose. 🙂 I would probably look for good cake somewhere near our place. Thanks a lot. 🙂
do you need to let the fondant toppers harden at all? or do you just make them and put them on right away? Super Cute!
I like to let them dry at least overnight. 🙂
thank-you!
What are you placing the fondant toppers on? Do you have a base of butter cream that you place the fondant toppers on? Or a base of something else? I think I see a little white below the toppers, and I don’t know what that is. PS- You are AMAZING!!!!
Yes, I put them on a little pillow of buttercream 🙂 Thank you!! xoxo
I love this cake! Is the roof of the cake fondant too? Did you add gumpaste to the roof pieces?
Yes, they’re little individual panels of fondant that I overlapped.
what did you use for the roof on the barn?
It’s rectangles of fondant, with tylose mixed in to make them stiff, then overlapped for the roof look.
Hi Rose,
I’m going to try making this barn cake and cupcake toppers for my daughter’s first birthday party. Did you need to double the vanilla cake recipe for the barn? Thank you!
Gosh – it’s been so long since I made it, I’m not 100% sure but I do imagine it will take more than one mix!
New Grandmother who loves to be creative. I never baked a cake and I’m 65! My daughter’s didn’t like cake. I am going to use your cake recipe and give it a try. Thinking of Oreo cookies without cream for roof.
