Apple Pie Egg Rolls
I'd never had dessert egg rolls before having an Apple Pie Roll at Panda Express. For me, egg rolls were savory - it never occurred to me to even try an egg roll dessert. But now that I have, I'm hooked!
I keep this recipe simple with store-bought egg roll wraps and canned apple pie filling. What makes them special is the simple homemade streusel, the walnuts, and the caramel drizzle on top.
Why You'll Love Dessert Egg Rolls
- Simple ingredients
- Easy to make
- Ready in a short time
- Fun dessert: Apple Pie Roll Ups are like a slice of apple pie you can carry with your hand!
The best part of these Easy Apple Pie Egg Rolls is they can be ready to eat in half an hour or less. And they are like a hand pie - a dessert you can hold in your hand!
Tools
- Mixing Bowls

Most grocery stores will have everything you need for this easy recipe. My tiny-town grocery store doesn't carry egg roll wrappers, but our nearest Walmart does, so I'm good to go!
Eggroll Wrappers - you could also use wonton wrappers.
Apple Pie Filling - almost any brand of cinnamon-spiced apple filling will work for this recipe. When in doubt, add a little extra cinnamon. Or if you happen to make homemade apple pie filling, that would also work for this recipe!
For the sugar mixture
- Flour
- Brown Sugar
- Butter
- Cinnamon or Apple Pie Spice
Toppings
- Walnuts
- Caramel sauce - storebought or homemade caramel sauce will work here.
- Powdered Sugar
- Cinnamon Sugar

When I was a kid, McDonald's had Apple Pies and Cherry Pies. Does anybody else remember that? They only have apple pies now, right?
Well, either way, I don't know why but these Apple Pie Rolls remind me of those I used to get at McDonalds as a kid.
Sooo, you can have an Apple Pie Egg Roll or a Cherry Pie Egg Roll... just change out the apple pie filling for cherry pie filling and voila... homemade Cherry Hand Pies.
How to Make Apple Pie Egg Rolls
Don't be intimidated by this apple pie egg rolls recipe. It's really easy to make them and you are going to love these delicious tasty treats!
- Start by making your streusel. Add your flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon to a small bowl. Melt two tablespoons of your butter and add to the bowl. Mix until clumps form. Smash and separate large clumps. Set aside.
- Lay out your egg roll wraps on a clean work surface.
- Place two tablespoons of sweet apple filling down the center of the wrapper, diagonally, with one corner facing you. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar streusel on top.
- Melt butter and brush on the edges of the wrapper, to help hold it together while frying. You could also paint a little water along the edges if you don't want to use melted butter.
- Fold up the bottom corner nearest you, then the top corner down, then fold over both sides. Then wrap tightly. You can double-wrap, but MAKE SURE to cook all the way through both wraps. Place egg rolls seam side down while you work through the remaining wrappers.
- Fill your frying pan with about two inches of oil. Let it heat up to 350°F. My favorite kitchen thermometer is this ... Egg rolls should create a boil when dropped in.
- Drop in your egg rolls one at a time into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway through, until both sides are browned and cooked through. You'll want them to have that delightful crunch on the outside to contrast the gooey filling on the inside.
- Drain the crispy egg rolls on paper towels or on a wire rack over a baking sheet.
- Place on a serving dish and sprinkle with walnuts and any extra apple crumble. Drizzle the apple egg rolls with caramel and serve! A taste of Apple Pie you can hold in your hand!
How to Cook Apple Egg Rolls in an Air Fryer
- Follow steps 1-5 above.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F.
- Spray egg rolls with cooking spray to get crispy egg roll wrappers.
- Air fry in a single layer for 5-6 minutes, then flip and repeat. Cook these tasty apple desserts in batches.
- Enjoy these little rolls with a drizzle with caramel and top with walnuts.
Pro Tip
Make sure the egg wraps are rolled tightly and sealed. If the filling leaks out, it can cause the hot oil to splatter and that hurts!
Serving Suggestions
- Dust the top of an apple pie roll with powdered sugar for a little extra sweetness and flair.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent fall treat.

Love the AF version, not a deep-fry person, so will have to give this a try.
