Did you know that for search engine purposes, you're supposed to keep the titles of blog posts short & sweet? Yeah... I don't always follow that rule. Ha! Prime example, the title of this post: Double Dark Chocolate Groom's Cake with Chocolate Dipped Strawberries & Monogram. I had to get it all in there, ya know?
So, this groom's cake was dark and rich and totally delicious. On the inside it was dark chocolate cake with chocolate chips. I filled and frosted it with dark chocolate buttercream, then I made ganache and poured it over the top.
As if that weren't enough, I also dipped strawberries in melted semi-sweet chocolate and placed them all around the cake.
It was good, ya'll. Not because I tasted this one - because the bride & groom probably wouldn't have liked that - but because I've made it before. It is one of my most favorite cakes.
Anyway - here are a few details... each tier had 2 layers of dark chocolate cake with semi-sweet chocolate chips, the bottom layers were baked in 12" square pans and the top layers were baked in 6" round pans.
I filled and frosted them with rich, chocolate buttercream. Then I made ganache and poured over the top! That's my favorite part... oh, the ganache.
As if that weren't enough, I also added chocolate dipped strawberries all over. That's another one of my favorite things, if you missed me mentioning it back on Mother's Day.
And then there was the "topper". I started by cutting a 6" round circle out of homemade marshmallow fondant. For the monogram, I used black modeling chocolate mixed with black fondant - about a 50-50 mixture. I used my Cricut to cut out the monogram (each letter was a separate cut), and then I used sugar glue to attach them to the fondant.
Once we were on location setting up, I put the "topper" on the cake and piped the border. OH and you can check out the wedding cake that accompanied this groom's cake her: Cake Ball Wedding Cake.
And that's it... I think that's all I can tell you about this cake! But just in case... do you have any questions? Leave me a comment and I'll answer and help out if I can!
