Crockpot Peach Cobbler Recipe

I’ve been making this peach cobbler recipe for most of my life, but somewhere along the way, I decided that I wanted a version I could make in my slow cooker. And it’s that time of year when I love making easy dessert recipes that use up the fresh in-season fruits!

While cake mix cobbler recipes are all the rage these days, I grew up eating peach cobbler made from scratch, and I just can’t seem to break that habit. Nothing against cake mixes, I use them in my most popular cake recipes all the time – but for peach cobbler, this is still a really simple recipe without the cake mix shortcut.

If you’re craving an easy, comforting dessert that tastes like summer, this Slow Cooker Peach Cobbler is just the thing! With sweet peaches, the cinnamon-spiced topping, and buttery goodness in every bite, it’s the kind of recipe that I’m crazy about.

It’s perfect for busy days or when you just don’t want to turn on the oven. This dump-and-go dessert is always a hit. Especially delicious when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

  2. Lightly spray the bottom of the crock pot with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Use a slotted spoon to spread the sugared peaches evenly across the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Sprinkle the dry mixture evenly over the top of the peaches.
  5. Scatter cubes of cold butter over the top.
  6. Place a paper towel over the top of the crockpot dish. (see why here)

Pro Tip

Why Put a Paper Towel Under the Lid?

If you’ve never tried this slow cooker trick before, you might be wondering — why the paper towel?

When cooking peach cobbler (or any baked-style dessert) in the slow cooker, steam builds up and collects on the lid. If left alone, that condensation drips right back into your dessert, making the topping soggy and heavy.

To avoid that, I like to place a paper towel (or a clean kitchen towel) over the top of the slow cooker before putting the lid on. The towel absorbs the excess moisture and keeps it from dripping back down onto the cobbler. This little step makes a big difference in texture – giving you a slightly crisp top, just like an oven-baked cobbler.

Bonus Tip: This trick isn’t just for cobblers! It works great for slow cooker brownies, breads, cakes, and other baked-style desserts where a moist but not soggy texture is key.

Safety Note: Be sure the towel doesn’t hang over the sides too far — you want it to sit neatly under the lid without posing a fire hazard or preventing a proper seal.

Variations

Another thing I love about this slow-cooker peach cobbler recipe is that it can easily become a blueberry cobbler or blackberry cobbler. I also have a Blackberry Peach Cobbler recipe here that is incredible!

🫐 How to Make the Swap:

  • Use the same amount of fruit: replace the 5 cups of sliced peaches with 5 cups of blueberries or blackberries (fresh or frozen).
  • Adjust sugar slightly if needed:
    • Blueberries and blackberries are typically less sweet than peaches.
    • Consider adding an extra 1–2 tablespoons of sugar to the fruit mixture, especially for tart blackberries so you are certain to have a sweet filling.
  • No peeling or slicing required: that’s a bonus when using berries—they’re ready to go as-is!
  • Frozen berries? You can use them straight from the freezer—just be aware they’ll release more liquid. You may want to toss them with 1–2 tablespoons of flour or cornstarch to thicken the juices.

Can I use canned peaches?

While this slow cooker cobbler calls for fresh peaches (which are my favorite!), you can absolutely substitute canned peaches.

fresh peaches

Here is my suggestion:

  • Use three 15-ounce cans of sliced peaches, drained.
  • If the canned peaches are in heavy syrup, consider reducing the granulated sugar to ¾ cup or less to avoid an overly sweet cobbler.
  • If they’re packed in 100% juice or light syrup, you can likely keep the full amount of sugar as listed.

Serving Suggestions

As I’ve already said more than once, you cannot go wrong serving this warm delicious dessert with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream

Want to be even more indulgent. Add a drizzle of homemade caramel sauce. Yuuummm!!

Serve this perfect dessert for an ordinary weeknight, a church potluck (the crock pot cobbler means it’s an effortless transport), or a family get-together. It will be the star of the show any time you make it!

Tip: Peach cobbler is just as delicious cold! The flavors are even better the next day, making it a tasty treat straight from the fridge—especially on a warm day.

🍑 Storage Directions

Store any leftover peach cobbler in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to 4–5 days. Make sure the cobbler is completely cooled before covering and chilling.

To reheat, simply warm individual servings in the microwave or place the whole cobbler in a 300°F oven for about 15–20 minutes until heated through.

FAQ

Do you refrigerate peach cobbler?

Yes, peach cobbler should be refrigerated when stored and can also be eaten cold, straight out of the fridge.

Why do you put a paper towel under the slow cooker lid when making peach cobbler?

Placing a paper towel (or clean kitchen towel) under the lid helps absorb excess moisture that would otherwise drip back into the cobbler. This keeps the topping from becoming soggy and helps it stay crisp – just the way it should be!
