Substitutions

Mega Stuf OREO Cookies – The more stuffing, the better, but you can make Double Stuf cookies work if you can’t find the Mega Stuf ones. And of course, you use a generic brand for these chocolate sandwich cookie spiders, but why?? Also, special Halloween OREO cookies are sometimes released during the season, and they have a different color filling that would make interesting OREO Spider Cookies too!

Pocky Sticks – If you can’t find (or don’t like) Pocky Sticks for chocolate legs, you can use pretzel sticks or even black licorice for the sets of legs.

Black Cookie Icing – Melted chocolate is a great substitution for cookie icing when making these fun spider cookies. You oculd also use regular chocolate frosting or melt dark chocolate chips!

How to Make Easy OREO Spiders

  1. Carefully twist an Oreo cookie to separate the top and bottom. Keep the creme filling intact on the bottom half. Lay them out in a single layer on a baking sheet or platter.
  2. Take 4 Pocky sticks and cut the chocolate-coated portion into thirds. Each piece should be about 1 to 1¼ inches long.
  3. Press one end of 8 Pocky pieces into the creme filling – 4 on each side of the OREOs – to create spider legs.
  4. Save the extra 4 Pocky pieces to use on your next spider.
  5. Gently press the Oreo top back on to re-seal the cookie around the legs.
  6. Use a small spoon to place a dot of cookie icing on the back of each candy eye, or put two tiny dots of frosting directly on top of the Oreo. If you’re using chocolate, melt a small amount in a microwave safe bowl and use a toothpick to apply it to the back of the edible eyes.
  7. Press two cute candy eyes into the frosting to secure them in place on top of the cookie.
  8. Repeat the process to make 9 more simple OREO spiders.
  9. Allow the frosting to set for a few minutes before serving these Spooky Spider Cookies.
  10. Store leftover Halloween OREO Spiders in an airtight container for up to 5 days at room temperature.

Pro Tips

  • Let the legs dry before serving! Give your spiders a few minutes to set after assembly so the legs stick firmly. This step prevents any accidental leg loss during transportation, especially if you’re bringing them to a Halloween party.
  • Customize your spiders Don’t hesitate to get creative—for example, use colored licorice for fun variations or mix different sized candy eyes for personality. This recipe is great for experimenting and making each Oreo spider uniquely yours.
