Easy Halloween Cake Pops
For today's recipe and tutorial, we're starting off with a cake shortcut that will save you time while you still end up with delicious Halloween cake pops! I use Funfetti cake mix for my recipe, but you can make them with chocolate fudge cake, vanilla cake, or any other flavor of cake that you love.
I also list almond bark as the ingredient I use for dipping. Almond Bark melts easier and smoother than almost any other type of melted white chocolate, so I highly recommend almond bark for decorated cake pops.

Scary Halloween Cake Pops
When I think of spooky Halloween Cake Pops, I always remember the Eyeballs on a Fork Cake Pops I made years ago. They are made with red velvet cake and are such a creepy Halloween treat.
These Mummy Cake Pops are much more friendly - you might even call them Cute Halloween Cake Pops instead of Scary Halloween Cake Pops. They would be great for the next Halloween party at your kids' school.
Supplies Needed
- Lollipop Sticks
- Piping Bag
- Bowl (for dipping)
- Electric Mixer (stand mixer or hand mixer)
- Parchment Paper
Ingredients
The ingredients for these Halloween Cake Balls are easy to find in any grocery store.
- Boxed Cake Mix (plus ingredients on the box) - baked and cooled.
- Vanilla Frosting (or chocolate frosting if you're using chocolate cake)
- White Almond Bark
- Candy Eyes - These are usually found in the Seasonal section near the Halloween sprinkles at Walmart, grocery stores, or even hobby stores like Hobby Lobby.

Substitutions
Cake Mix - if you don't want to bake a fresh cake for this Halloween cake pops recipe, there are alternatives. You an use donut holes and simply follow the decorating instructions. You could also use store-bought cake to make these easy Halloween cake pops. Leftover cake works too if you have a cake business like I do and always have cake scraps laying around. Note: I tried angel food cake from the frozen food section once and the texture was not good so maybe skip that option.
Almond Bark - you can use white melts or candy coating instead of almond bark if you want. However, I do not recommend white chocolate chips - they are coated to prevent melting losing their shape in transit and it prevents them from melting smoothly in recipes like this.
Frosting - you can use store-bought canned frosting or homemade frosting. I usually use vanilla buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
Candy Eyes - If you don't have or can't find the candy eyeballs, you can use black confetti sprinkles or black writing gel to make eyes.
How to Make Halloween Cake Pops
This is a really easy recipe and you end up with some super cute shortcut Halloween cake pops.
- Bake the box of cake mix according to the package directions. You can bake it in any size or shape of pan you have because you're just going to crumble it up when it's done and cooled.
- When ready, start by crumbling up the cooled cake. The easiest way to do this is to add the cake and frosting to the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Mix on high until well combined. Knead together until the consistency of play dough.
Note: If you don't have a stand mixer, you can do this by hand or with an hand mixer in a large bowl. Just mix until the crumbled cake and frosting come together in a dough.
- Use a cookie dough scoop out small balls of the cake mixture and roll into balls. Repeat until all your dough is used up.
- Place the cake balls on a baking sheet in freezer for 15-20 minutes. Don't freeze them for too long or they will become too cold and cause the chocolate coating to crack after you dip them (ask me how I know!).
- Place your almond bark in the microwave. Melt for 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until it has a smooth consistency and is completely melted. If you don't have a microwave, you could also melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
How to Dip Cake Pops
- Dip the end of a lollipop stick into your melted chocolate, then place down the center of each cake ball. Place back in the fridge for 10 minutes to set. This helps the cake stick to the lollipop sticks so the cake won't fall off.
- Begin dipping each cake pop, one at a time, in melted coating. Shake off the excess chocolate.
- Before the chocolate sets, add two candy eyeballs to the top half of the cake pop (close together). Gently set down on parchment paper.
- Place the chocolate-coated cake balls in the fridge for a few minutes.
- While your cake pops are setting up, pour excess melted candy melts into a piping bag. Cut a small tip off the end.
- After the o back and forth over each cake pop, drizzling chocolate over the cake pops and slightly over the bottom of the candy eyes in thin lines. Run the chocolate diagonally across the cake pop a couple times. Then set on your parchment paper to set.
- Once chocolate is hardened, you can serve and enjoy! These are so incredibly cute, and delicious! Store in a sealed container.
Pro Tips
Want to skip the sticks? You can dip the cake balls into a small bowl of melted chocolate then tap off any excess coating and set them on parchment paper. Place the eyeballs on them and after they set up, drizzle with more melted white candy coating.
If you get tired of making the decorated Mummy cake pops, make extras with orange candy melts and call them Pumpkin Cake Pops. Or add some festive sprinkles over white or black candy melts for Cute Halloween Cake Pops (with no fuss).
Almond Bark or Candy Melts too thick? If the melted almond bark or candy melts are too thick, thin it out with a small amount of vegetable oil or coconut oil. I have a full post on that here.
