Naked Cakes with Fruit - Lots of ideas for any occasion! These cakes are simple, pretty and really popular! Naked Wedding Cakes are perfect for the trendy rustic wedding themes! However, I've also done Naked Cakes for birthdays and baby showers that included fruit and they're always a hit.
Naked Cakes are/were one of the trendiest cake designs of 2019 and seem to still be going strong. In the last few weeks alone, I've done a handful of them and the orders just keep rolling in. Just for fun I thought I'd share some of my recent designs and give you a few details.
What is a Naked Cake?
First, let's talk about what a naked cake is.
Generally, a "naked cake" is a cake with either no frosting on the outside, or very little frosting. And there are also cakes that are almost completely covered - with a little cake showing through.
Most of the cakes I've made would be called "Nearly Naked" cakes or "Partially Dressed" cakes. This is sort of like that.
It cracks me up to think about that, but the bottom line is, the cakes I'll be sharing have a thin layer of frosting that partially covers the cake, but also allows some of the cake color and texture to show through.
In my opinion, this is the best option because the thin layer of frosting seals the cake so that it doesn't dry out, but you still get that rustic cake vibe.
There are also variations in how much frosting is on the outside. There are those with just a tiny bit of frosting and a lot of cake showing. Or there are naked cakes where you almost completely cover the cake, but have tiny bits showing through.
I have cakes with both options that I'll be sharing. The other common factor in these cakes is that they are topped with fresh fruit.
Fruit it certainly not necessary for every naked cake design, but it does seem to be really popular and a really pretty combination. Plus it adds color and it's delicious!
Nearly Naked Cakes...
Let's start by talking about the first Naked Cake with Fruit that I posted. This sweet little cake was made for a Gender Reveal Party. The mother-to-be had another plan for how to reveal the baby's gender so she just wanted a delicious dessert for her guests.
This cake was almost completely covered in frosting, with only a small sliver of cake showing through. In addition to that, it had a white chocolate drip and lots of fruit and swirls of frosting to make it pretty ❤️️
This was a 7" round white almond sour cream cake with vanilla buttercream.
As mentioned in this post with all the details, the bride who ordered this cake asked for an "almost completely dressed" naked cake with fresh fruit.
I added raspberries, blueberries and strawberries to this cake, along with some mint leaves and black sugar roses. Then everything was dusted with powdered sugar to give it a frosted look.
If you want to read all the details of this cake, you'll find them here --> Semi-Naked Sugared Berries Winter Wedding Cake.
This next Naked Cake with Fruit was a lot more naked than the previous cakes. The bride had sent several pics of cakes she liked and they leaned more toward the "nearly" naked look.
This naked cake had three flavors - chocolate, wedding cake and strawberry. I loved the look of the three different colors of cake and it displayed beautifully.
Since this cake was for a Fall wedding, I added apples with strawberries. Again, the fruit is dusted with powdered sugar and is so beautiful set up. See more details of this cake here --> Rustic Naked Cake with Fresh Fruit.
This cake was for a family friend who was celebrating her birthday with her daughter. I had to deliver the cake a day early due to a scheduling issue, so she added her own toppers at the party.
I added a few extra strawberries I had on hand so you'd get the idea, but she added a lot more along with a glittery topper. It was pretty, pretty!
The flavor was white almond sour cream with strawberries & cream cheese filling (SO good!!!) and vanilla buttercream.
My last Naked Cake with Fruit was for a bridal shower. This cake was red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream. I'm not sure which fruits were actually added at the shower but I used small apples and strawberries for my pictures.
Completely Naked Cakes...
Alrighty... now I'll link up to a couple of completely naked cakes over on my other blog.
This is a completely Naked Red Velvet Cake with strawberries and blackberries. You can get the recipe for the from-scratch red velvet cake here: https://rosebakes.com/easy-red-velvet-cake-recipe/
I love the piping of small pillows of frosting between the layers and on top of this cake, then the added fruit for more flavor and color!
And lastly, this is a Homemade Black Forest Cake which is another version of a Naked Cake with Fruit.
Of course cherries are a must when making Black Forest Cake, but I love using the fresh cherries as flavor and decor on this cake! The full recipe is here.
Alrighty... that's all I have for you. I hope you've enjoyed this round-up of Naked Cakes with Fruit. Please leave any comments or questions below!
