Mickey Mouse Cake and Smash Cake

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake and Smash cake

You may recognize this Mickey Mouse Cake – I’ve done it before here. Christo’s mom asked that I do the same cake for him… plus a smash cake!

I really do love this fun and  simple Mickey Mouse cake.

Mickey Mouse Cake

So, here are a few details for you…

First, the bottom cake was 2 layers of 8″ round cake. The flavor on this cake was butter cake with vanilla buttercream filling and frosting. Mickey’s head was done with the Wilton Sports ball pan (or half of it 😉 ).

For the ears, I mixed lots of Tylose into some  Satin Ice Black Vanilla fondant, then I rolled it out thin and used a 3″ round cutter to cut them out. I made them ahead of time then let them dry for 24-48 hours.

When I was ready to put them on, I used Tylose glue (tylose plus water to form a sticky edible glue) to “glue”craft sticks to the back of the ears. I covered them with a narrow trip of fondant and let them dry some more, then I just pushed the bottom of the sticks into the cake!

The feet were rice cereal treats covered in fondant. I mimicked the “Disney” font for his name using Satin Ice red fondant.

The red and black fondant were Satin Ice brand:  Satin Ice Red Vanilla fondant and Satin Ice Black Vanilla fondant. The white and yellow were homemade marshmallow fondant.

Mickey Mouse Smash Cake

For the smash cake, it was a single layer butter cake with vanilla buttercream. I used a large Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter to do the head and the “1” from this Fox Run Numbers cookie cutters set.

I piped on the red buttercream using a large round tip from the Ateco Large Tube set (one of my favorite things)!

  1. Hi,

Imitation, they say, is the sincerest form of flattery .. and i just HAVE to let you know that I copied this design of yours for a cake for a friend’s niece who turned 1 today.
The entire family was THRILLED to bits seeing the cake …of course, me being an absolute amateur haven’t got the perfect finish that you have on your cake … but i loved making it! The family didn’t want any black fondant, so i covered the ‘black’ portion with dark chocolate ganache and made the ears using Chocopie biscuits on a skewer …

just wanted to say Thanks for putting up a wonderful design …

    warm regards,

  2. Rose……please oh please share your secret to making Red buttercream icing!! I am attempting to make a miniature version for my twins smash cakes (using buttercream instead of fondant) but I can’t get past PINK. I used Wilton Red…….unfortunately my icing went from white and delicious to pink and tasting like dye 🙁

Thank you so much for showing this Mickey Mouse cake! How much do you think a bakery would charge for the Mickey Mouse cake? The one with ears and feet? Just weighing my options

    1. There’s absolutely no way for me to know that, sorry. Prices vary based on location, demand, and popularity… anywhere from $2.50 to $10 per serving based on my experience.
