A Swamp Party: Alligator Cake & Grass Cupcakes

Aligator Swamp Cake and Grass Cupcakes by Rose Bakes

Today I’m gonna tell you about A Swamp Party: Alligator Cake & Grass Cupcakes. I made these sweets for my nephew Tucker when he celebrated his 3rd birthday back in 2014 and had a Swamp Party.

Amy (my sis-in-law) and her Mom set up the cutest party!! Here are a few pics of the decorations, then I’ll tell ya about the cake and cupcakes…

This was the sign at the end of their driveaway:

Hawley Swamp

And there were gift bags…

And alligators galore in “the swamp”:

Gator in Light Fixture

Tucker on Alligator

And the main alligator… Tucker!

And the awesome table and foods  ya’ll…

Swamp Water

Swamp Logs

Swamp Dip

Gator Eggs

Gator Bait

Okay – so now let’s talk about the cake. Tucker’s favorite is chocolate, so I made chocolate cake and cupcakes with this recipe.

I used vanilla buttercream for all of the frosting – plus some crushed Oreos for the dirt. Then the lily pads, tall grass, and flowers were done with homemade marshmallow fondant.

Tuckers Cake

I used Satin Ice Red Fondant for Tuckers name and cut the letters out with some alphabet cookie cutters (no longer available).

Modeling Chocolate Alligator

I made the alligator cake topper with modeling chocolate. He wasn’t perfect but I was pretty happy with him! Tucker wanted him to have lots of teeth – but I didn’t want him to be too scary, so I tried to do both happy and lots of teeth!

Alligator Topper

He looks like a good guy, huh?

Cat tails Cake Topper

I made the cattails with skewers and brown fondant… then stuck the “3” on the front with a little melted chocolate.

Oh – and the cupcakes…. I forgot to get a good pic of them alone, but you can see them well here:

I used a large grass tip to do these… I just kept them simple and a little messy… to fit in the swamp! I used the same tip around the borders of the cake as you can see above.

And that’s all I’ve got, I think! Everything at the party was SO cute and well-done. Amy & her Mom always throw a great party!! You can see Tucker’s 1st Birthday Party here, his 2nd Tractor birthday cake here (I had to miss that party so no pics), and his brother Rodney’s 1st Birthday Monster Party here.
