The first time I did the "Some Bunny is One" birthday theme was for my niece here. Then almost exactly a year later, I made more Bunny 1st Birthday Cakes. And with Easter coming up quick, I knew I had to share these (even though they're very similar to the others).

I have to tell ya - I absolutely adored these cakes!! I somehow wish I could talk my daughter into a bunny cake for her birthday.
She'll be 14... do you think I could convince her?? She actually does have real bunnies for pets and her birthday is in April (that's near Easter) so I think we could. 😉
Okay - let's first talk about the cake details!
Bunny 1st Birthday Cakes
As far as I can tell, the original design was done by Cake Expressions by Lisa here. This was a mostly buttercream cake with modeling chocolate decorations and a gum paste topper (the number).
The cake was 6" and 8" round tiers (baked in my favorite Magic Line pans); the top tier was vanilla and the bottom strawberry.
I used a Wilton #402 to pipe the ruffles on the bottom (starting from the bottom and going up for each line) and I used this cream cheese buttercream recipe. I used Americolor Soft Pink to get the very delicate pink color.
Here's the topper! You can find some cool number cutters on Etsy here. After it dried, I painted it with Aztec gold luster dust mixed with lemon extract. Then I "glued" it to a lollipop stick with melted chocolate to stand it up!
The tiny roses on the top tier were made out of modeling chocolate. I used a similar technique to the ribbon roses tutorial here.
I remember struggling to get this bunny just like I wanted, but in the end, she was pretty cute. There are some amazing classes over at Craftsy for modeling fondant animals - check them out here!
This is easily one of my most favorite cakes ever. And yes, I say that all the time 🙂
In addition to the big cake, there was the precious smash cake...
Buttercream Bunny Cake
After the disaster the first time I did this design (read about it here), I was just happy to keep this cake off the floor! Ha! It's also covered in cream cheese buttercream and I used a #22 tip to pipe the little bunny. The eye was a black sugar pearl and the nose was a tiny piece of modeling chocolate.
For the last detail, I also made the bow was out of modeling chocolate; it was done with a silicone bow mold.
The rosettes around the bottom were also piped with a #22 tip and then a leaf tip for the leaves (doh!). 😉 You can see how I cover my boards with paper and wrap in ribbon in a tutorial here.
And that's all I've got for ya! If you loved these Bunny 1st Birthday Cakes, be sure to check out the other posts I've linked up below! And as always, if you have a question, leave me a comment!

I'm curious about a statement in this article post. What is it about the Magic Line pans that you like so much. I want to begin to replace many of the pans I have, especially pans that are rectangle or square to have the clean cut corners versus the more rounded feel of the standard pans I have from my relatives. They look heavier to me than a pan from some place, say Wilton for example, but I can't tell that for sure just by a picture.
thanks
Rose
They're not "heavy" but they're heavier than other pans. They don't warp or get misshapen easily and I've baked in them for years, thousands of times!
