Making the Cake Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F Fahrenheit. Grease a Bundt cake pan with a baking pan spray or butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients including the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a separate bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer), cream the soft butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in one egg at a time until welcome combined, and stir in vanilla extract. You can do this with a hand mixer.
  4. Slowly add half of the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on medium speed. Stir in the sour cream and then the remaining flour mixture. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Making the Cinnamon Swirl

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and cinnamon.

Assembling the Cake

  1. Pour half of the batter into your prepared bundt pan.
  2. Sprinkled the cinnamon sugar mixture over the cake batter in the bundt pan.
  3. Spoon the rest of the batter over the cinnamon layer carefully to make sure all the cinnamon gets covered.

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until it is smooth.
  2. Once the cake has completely cooled, pour the glaze over the top of the cake.

  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients. You will almost always get the best results when baking by using room-temperature ingredients.

Bundt pans can be a little tricky because some of them have extra grooves and crevices that might cause the cake to stick. Here are my best tips to prevent a bundt cake from sticking to the pan.

  1. Spray the pan with a nonstick spray made for baking like Baker’s Joy.
  2. Mix equal parts of butter and flour and rub it into the pan so all the sides of the pan and bottom of the pan are coated. I have a homemade cake release recipe here.
  3. Rub butter inside the pan and cover all surfaces and grooves. Add 1/2 cup flour to the pan and shake around until it’s coated, then dump out the excess flour.
  4. Use a nonstick-coated bundt pan.
  5. Gently loosen the cake from the edges of the pan when the cake is hot.
  6. Allow the cake to rest for only 5-10 minutes before flipping the pan over.
  7. Tap the bundt pan to help the cake slide out of the pan.

Storage Directions

Room Temperature: You will want to store your cake covered in an airtight container at room temperature. You can also wrap it in plastic wrap for an extra layer to preserve moisture.
