Today I'm sharing a Godzilla cake with you! I have to admit - I don't know a lot about the Godzilla movies, but my customer provided the toys (characters) and a few ideas and this is what I came up with!
She didn't really need more than 20 servings, so I started with a 9x13 sheet cake. She mentioned the city and the ocean, so I thought it would be fun to do half the cake sharp with fondant (the city) and the other half all buttercream for the ocean.
I was pretty happy with how it turned out!
I made the buildings from rice cereal treats cut into rectangular cubes. I just cut out panels of fondant and "glued" them to the buildings with a little buttercream. I pushed lollipop sticks into the bottom and then pushed them into the cake.
I used my ribbon cutter to do the "highway" from Satin Ice Black fondant and then I cut all of the letters from Satin Ice Red fondant. The "Happy Birthday" was done with the Fox Run letter cutters and "Eli" was cut using these 1.5" alphabet cookie cutters.
As I said earlier, Eli's mom supplied the little characters for me to put on the cake, so I had one crawling out of the ocean and the others "in the city".
After making the buildings and letting them harden overnight, the rest came together pretty easily. Eli and his mom loved it and that's what matters most!
The cake was vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. I used a mix of Satin Ice fondant and homemade marshmallow fondant for all of the decorations!
What do you think about the half and half look (fondant/buttercream)? Do you have any questions about this cake? I love to hear from readers so leave me a comment if you have a question or thoughts about this cake!

I love this! How much fondant did you buy for each color?

Gosh, it was years ago so I don't know. I often buy 5 pound buckets because I use them so often, but for this cake, I'm sure you could get by with much less - maybe even 1 pound or 2 pound buckets.

Thank you for the inspiration as I based mine off your design and my son loved it. Happy to share it with you.
