This Pink Pumpkin Cake is perfect for a Fall party. Completely with ruffles and a touch or orange, it's perfect for a little girl's Fall birthday party!

This is one of those times where I'm skipping through my massive backlog of cakes to share and jumping to one of the last ones because it's in season. I was really excited about this Pink Pumpkin Cake with Ombre Ruffles - because it's a little bit unique and a lot loveable!
Molly's mom Jennifer was using shades of pink and orange for her fall birthday party and she loved the ruffles on this Pink & Orange Ombre Ruffles Owl Cake. So that's 'what we decided to do for the bottom tier.
I'm going to do my very best to get the tutorial for doing those ruffles posted tomorrow!
Pumpkins were the main theme of the party - based on this adorable invitation from Becca Lee Paperie and Design, so she asked about doing a pumpkin for the top tier. I actually loved the idea so we ran with it!
We decided to do the pumpkin pink and the lettering white, with some simple white polka dots to tie the theme together.
The pumpkin cake was baked in this Nordic Ware 3D Great Pumpkin Cake pan. I did a filling between the two layers, then crumb coated it in buttercream before covering with the pale pink marshmallow fondant.
I used my favorite funky alphabet cutters for her name and just a small round cookie cutter to do the polka dots.
The stem was made from chocolate fondant mixed with some white homemade marshmallow fondant to lighten it a bit, then I used a gum paste tool to mark it up and make the lines.
When I was taking pics of this cake, I had a little extra time so I experimented with my black back-drops and my almost-white back drops.... the majority of you on Facebook preferred the black, and I think I do too...
Just for fun, I also took this "above" shot, but it's a bit fuzzy and not very artistic for showing off the cake, so I probably won't be taking many from that angle anymore... live and learn!
With Jennifer's permission, here are a few pictures from Molly's party at the Pumpkin Patch ... she's a beautiful little girl and they're just a beautiful family altogether!
Is that adorable or what?
Oooh, and check this out! Jennifer made some of my pink and orange candy apples (recipe here) for her party! How fantastic is that?! It genuinely thrills me to see my blog and recipes helping others make pretty and delicious treats!
Overall - I was thrilled with the way this cake turned out! I love it when I get opportunities to do unique cakes like this and seeing pictures of a beautiful and successful party just makes my heart happy 🙂
The cake was vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and all homemade marshmallow fondant decorations (except the stem, as I mentioned above). The bottom tier was 8" cakes and the pumpkin cake was baked in the Nordic Ware 3D Pumpkin pan which is around 6" at itsSe widest.

Hi Rose!, great cake, I loved everything about it! I have two questions for you if you don't mind. What area of walmart do you find the bubble straws? I walked my whole walmart yesterday and could not find them and nobody seemed to know what i was talking about.... 🙁
Also, are there different sizes of the tappit funky letter cutters? I have a set but the letters seem a lot smaller than the ones you put on this cake, mine say 3 cm on the packaging (i think for the lower case).
Thank you so much! Can't wait for the tutorial on the ruffles.. I am finishing a firefighter hat cake with a lot of help from your tutorial!

I don't buy my bubble tea straws at Walmart - I buy them on eBay or Amazon.com here: http://amzn.to/1eu5utc. Hope that helps 🙂 My funky letter cutters are probably about that size... I'm not aware of any other funky letter cutters other than the ones by FMM and they're just one size.

Thank you for taking the time to answer! Don't know why I thought you got them at Walmart.... Oh, well, it comes with age.... LOL! Thanks for sharing so much!

Few questions: how many servings do you think the pumpkin feeds? What size is the bottom layer? I'm just trying to get an idea of how big and how many people this cake feeds.
Rose
The bottom is an 8" cake (24 servings) and I equate the pumpkin to a 6" tier (12 servings). The pumpkin may be a little more or less, but close.
