Do you remember this Gender Reveal cake? Well... Leslie is getting ready to have that baby girl and it was time for a baby shower.
The theme was simple... pink and rustic. A lot of the decor was wrapped up in burlap and lace.
To keep the cake along the same lines, we kept it simple too! A messy, rustic thick coat of buttercream and a burlap rosette.
The mommy-to-be's sister made the flower for the cake. She's way more crafty than me. Actually, everybody is way more crafty than me, but that's beside the point!
Anyway, I think this cake would easily also work as a wedding cake or a bridal shower cake.... so many possibilities!
The cake was chocolate on the bottom tier and vanilla on the top tier with all vanilla buttercream!

How did you get the beautiful frosting art work swirls on the cake and what kind of tool did you use to achieve that look. You made this cake look artistically beautiful without any details to itl!!!!
Rose
Thanks so much Elizabeth! I just used a 9" Wilton off-set spatula and made a rough pattern as I put the buttercream on... I really don't know how to explain it - but it's super easy to do!!

What size pans did you use for each layer? Did you just put them on top of each other? Is the top layer on a cake board? Thanks for posting this. It is so cute and perfect for a shower I'm throwing.
Rose
They were 6" and 10" pans - 2 layers of cake per tier. I do use cardboard cake boards between all tiers of cake! You can see more about that here (I think)!

Where did you get the white cake board/cake base for this cake? Also, did you put anything between the burlap flower and the cake or did you put the burlap directly on the cake? Love this cake! It's beautiful!!
Rose
I took (3) 12" round cake circles and taped them together, then wrapped it in white paper. The cake stand is Waterford Crystal Ballet Icing found here.
Ann
Can I ask what kind of white paper you used to wrap the cake circles?
Rose
I did this last year so I cant't remember for sure, but either Wilton Fanci Foil, or maybe freezer paper, or possibly even a white plastic table cloth (the kind you can get for $1), but it really doesn't look like plastic in the pic, so maybe one of the first two.
Andrea
Just wondering what did you put on flower to not touch cake. What would you use if you had a strip of burlap for each layer?
Thank you
Rose
A strip of wax paper or parchment between the burlap and the frosting would protect it.

Beautiful cake! My question is, did the burlap rose leave behind little hairs of burlap on the frosting (not sure if that's what you call them lol)?
Rose
I don't remember it being a problem but that was a few years ago.
Lynne
Beautiful cake! This would be perfect for a baby shower i am planning.
What size.pans did you use and how many does this cake feed?
Thank you
Rose
Thanks Lynne! This cake was 6" and 10" tiers and that was ~50 servings.
Lynne
Perfect, thank you so much!

What did you use to get the frosting that shade of pink? I couldn’t find anywhere that it was mentioned
Rose
Hey LeAnn - it was so many years ago, I can't say with 100% certainty, but I almost always use a tiny bit of Electric Pink to get most of the pink cakes I do.
