- Add the ground beef to the skillet and increase the heat to medium-high heat.

- Reduce heat to low and simmer until the liquid is absorbed and the seasoning coats the meat.
- Stir the onion and pepper mixture back into the taco filling.
- Serve immediately with hard taco shells, flour tortillas, or your favorite toppings.

Pro Tips
- Gather everything before starting. Having ingredients at room temperature helps make cooking easier.
- My little trick for extra flavor is cooking the onions and peppers first so they soften and sweeten before adding them back to the meat.
- Let the meat sit undisturbed briefly while browning for better flavor.
- Homemade taco seasoning gives you more control over the blend of spices and heat level.
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes for more heat.
- Add fresh garlic or garlic powder for extra flavor.
- A spoonful of tomato paste or tomato sauce can create richer taco meat.
- A splash of chicken broth instead of water adds extra depth.

Can I Use Different Meat?
Absolutely!
This homemade taco meat recipe works with several different options:
- Ground turkey
- Ground chicken
- Lean meat blends
- Other ground meat options
Keep in mind that lean ground beef usually gives the juiciest taco meat while still minimizing excess grease.

Leftover taco meat is one of my favorite things because there are so many easy ways to use it:
- Taco salad
- Taco bowl
- Taco soup
- Walking tacos
- Beef enchiladas
- Nachos with tortilla chips
- Loaded baked sweet potatoes
