Grape Salad Recipe with Cream Cheese
This delicious recipe has been in my Mama’s recipe box for as long as I can remember, and it shows up at almost every church get-together we have. Around here, it’s one of those recipes that everybody expects to see sitting on the table when it’s time to eat.
It’s creamy, crunchy, cool, light, and just plain delicious. On a hot summer day, this creamy fruit salad is one of the best things you can pull out of the refrigerator. And the best part? It’s so easy to throw together ahead of time.
I honestly don’t make this easy grape salad recipe all that often because Mama makes it constantly, but every time I do, I’m reminded how good it is. It’s a simple, easy fruit salad that always disappears fast.
Note: 99% of the time we make our grape salad with pecans, but for my photos, walnuts were the nut of the day 🙂 Either one works great for this popular dish, so it’s really up to you which nut you add for a bit of crunch!

Optional Variations
You can easily switch things up depending on what you have on hand:
- Use low fat cream cheese instead of full-fat cream cheese
- Swap some of the sour cream for plain Greek yogurt to make Greek yogurt dressing. Vanilla yogurt also works great!
- Try different nuts like walnuts instead of crunchy pecans
- Stir in mini marshmallows or marshmallow cream for a sweeter version
- A small container of Cool Whip can be used for an even fluffier, creamy filling
How to Make Grape Salad
- First, if you like smaller bites or the grapes are large, slice them in half. If I have extra-large grapes, I’ll even cut them in quarters. Otherwise, you can use them whole.
- If you’re using more than one variety of grapes, toss them together in a large bowl.
- In a separate mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to blend together the sour cream, softened cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

- Add the grapes to the creamy dressing and stir until all the grapes are evenly coated.

- In a small bowl, mix together the chopped pecans and brown sugar. Sprinkle the topping over the top of the grape salad just before serving. For church, Mama usually stirs the topping into the salad before serving, but you can also leave it sprinkled over the top of the whole big bowl or over individual servings.

- Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Pro Tips for the Best Grape Salad Recipe
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature before mixing, so the cream cheese mixture is smooth.
- Dry freshly washed grapes with a paper towel before mixing to keep the dressing creamy instead of watery.
- For the best flavor, chill the salad for a few hours before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- You can use a food processor to chop the pecans or walnuts if you want to save a little time – just be careful not to over-blend them or you’ll end up with nut powder instead of giving the grape salad that perfect bit of crunch!
How to Store Cream Cheese Grape Salad
Store leftover grape salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This grape salad recipe with cream cheese is actually even better the next day, after the flavors have had time to blend together.
I don’t recommend freezing this creamy grape salad because the texture of the grapes and creamy dressing can change once thawed.

Easy Grape Salad Recipe
Description
This Easy Grape Salad Recipe is one of those old-fashioned church potluck recipes that never goes out of style. It’s made with fresh, crisp grapes, a sweet and tangy, creamy dressing, and a crunchy brown-sugar pecan topping. Whether you serve it as a side dish or a dessert, this creamy grape salad recipe is always a crowd pleaser at family gatherings, holiday meals, and summer cookouts.
Ingredients
- 4 pounds of seedless grapes (green and/or purple – I use 2 lbs of each)
- 1 8 oz package of cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1 8 oz container sour cream
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 4 ounces chopped pecans
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
Instructions
- Wash and dry the grapes, then cut them all in half (the cutting step can be skipped, but the grapes seem to absorb the flavor better if they’re cut and it adds an extra texture).
- In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla, and white sugar. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the “dressing” over the grapes and stir until evenly incorporated.
- Sprinkle with brown sugar and pecans, mix again and refrigerate for a couple of hours to chill or until you’re ready to serve.
- *For a healthier version, I have heard that this salad is also wonderful using Splenda instead of sugar, fat free cream cheese and low fat sour cream! I haven’t tried it myself but I’d love to hear about it if you have!

So glad to hear this – thank you!!
Your ingredients don’t list yogurt but your instructions do. What’s up with that?
Aaah, sorry about that. I sometimes substitute yogurt for sour cream and I must have just mixed it up when writing. I have corrected it now!
