Substitutions
White Peppermint Bark is actually a very versatile recipe. Here are a few substitutions you can try!
Candy Canes. You can use peppermint candy of any variety - candy canes, round peppermint candies, etc. Another fantastic option is red and green Peppermint Crunch (a favorite of mine!).
You can also add a drop or two of peppermint oil or a little peppermint extract to the melted chocolate if you want to add some peppermint flavor to the chocolate.
White Chocolate. You are not limited to white chocolate - you could make milk chocolate peppermint bark, semi-sweet chocolate peppermint bark, or dark chocolate peppermint bark. Or melt two kinds and swirl them together. Having said that...
Do NOT use White Chocolate Chips. Okay, that sounds kind of bossy, but most white chocolate chips are really hard to melt due to a substance put on the chocolate chips to help them hold their shape and not melt in transportation. Which means they are hard to melt for this too. So for best results, do not use them.
You can use them (at your own risk), but I do not recommend them! Instead, use melting wafers or high-quality baker's chocolate for this recipe.
How to Make White Chocolate Peppermint Bark
This is such an easy peppermint bark - ready to eat in around 10 minutes, you will not find a faster, better recipe for peppermint bark with white chocolate.
- The first step is to lay out a sheet of parchment paper, not wax paper, on a flat surface that you can easily move and ideally set into your fridge or freezer. I highly recommend a baking sheet.
- Chop your candy canes and get your sprinkles ready (if you're using any). To crush the candy canes, you can use a meat mallet or a rolling pin. Place unwrapped candy canes in a ziplock bag, then beat them with one of those heavy tools to crush them. You want the candy cane pieces to be pretty small.
- If using almond bark, chop it up. The smaller you chop it, the faster it'll melt.
- Melt the white chocolate or almond bark in a microwaveable bowl. Melt in 30 second intervals, stirring between each to avoid scorching the chocolate. Stop when the melted white chocolate is completely smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate into the center of the lined baking sheet and using an offset spatula or silicone spatula, spread the white chocolate layer out evenly.
- Sprinkle with crushed candy canes and sprinkles (if desired).
- Pick up the pan (just a few inches) and tap or drop the pan a few times to even out the candy.
- Carefully set the tray of white chocolate bark into the fridge for at least 5 minutes (up to an hour) to set the chocolate.
- Once set, it can be stored and eaten at room temperature!
- Break the finished bark into pieces and it's ready to eat! This candy is so good and easy!
Note: Remember, if you can't get your hands on the Peppermint Crunch, I highly recommend it as a great substitute for candy canes and it's so pretty with the red and green! This is another way to change up this white peppermint bark recipe.
I've bought my Peppermint Crunch on Amazon and also at Country Kitchen Sweetart.
Variation
Another fun version of white chocolate peppermint candy is a layered peppermint bark using semi-sweet chocolate and white chocolate mixture. What I like to do is melt the semi-sweet chocolate and spread it evenly for the bottom layer. Pop it in the fridge to set for at least 5 minutes, then melt the white chocolate and spread on top of the semisweet chocolate.
Next, sprinkle the crushed peppermint pieces on top of the bark. It's delicious and when you break up the pieces of bark, you can see the beautiful layers of white and brown chocolate.
Serving Suggestions
I have given white chocolate mint candy as gifts (already mentioned), added it to cookie trays and sold them (see how here), or kept some in a bowl on the counter during the holiday season for an easy treat.
FAQ
Yes! I cut it in half for the photos and video on this post and I've doubled it before when making big batches to sell at Christmastime. White Chocolate Bark recipes are very easy to scale up or down because there's no baking!

Love to make (& eat) peppermint crunch. Also loved to see you using Country Kitchen products-this line is a hometown product for me (so much so that I really can't spend that much time in the store or I end up spending way to much money than what's good for me, lol). Have you ever made their lemon crunch in the Spring? Just take white "chocolate" wafers & Country Kitchen's lemon crunch & use the same process you describe above. Delicious!!!

Mmmm, that sounds so yummy! I'm a big fan of lemon flavored anything!
