FAQ
No, chia seeds need not be soaked before making this Strawberry Chia Seed Jam recipe. They naturally absorb liquid and thicken the mixture as the jam cools, creating a gel-like consistency. Just mix them directly into the warm fruit mixture, and they’ll do their job without pre-soaking.
Yes, you can use frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones to make chia jam. Just thaw them first and drain any excess liquid to prevent the jam from becoming too watery. Cook the thawed strawberries as you would with fresh ones, and the chia seeds will still thicken the mixture perfectly.
Can I can or preserve chia seed jam for long-term storage?
No, Strawberry Chia Seed Jam is not recommended for canning or long-term storage because chia seeds can affect the jam’s acidity and stability, making it unsafe for traditional canning methods. It’s best to store chia jam in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze it for a few months. For long-term preservation, consider making a traditional jam without chia seeds.
