Once you know how it's done - it will come together so quickly for you!
Simple Charcuterie Board
While this charcuterie bouquet may look really complicated or hard to make, this simple charcuterie board really is simple. It takes about 45 minutes to make it but you don't have to do any cooking or baking - just time to make each charcuterie flower and carefully arrange them.
I have a video below showing you how it's done. You can also check out this post for a few pictures of how to make the meat flowers and cheese flowers.
Equipment Needed
- Sharp Knife
- Large Cutting Board
- Parchment Paper
- Large Wooden Board (Charcuterie Board)
Ingredients
I've listed the fresh ingredients I used for this Springtime Charcuterie Board, but remember that you can change things depending on your tastes and preferences. This beautiful charcuterie board is really versatile and customizable.
- Ham, sliced thin
- Salami, sliced thin
- Red Grapes and/or Green Grapes
- Pistachios
- Cashews
- Honey
- Lemon Slices (Thin)
- Blood Orange Slices (Thin)
- Cucumber Slices (Thin)
- Strawberries Slices (Thin)
- Provolone Cheese Slices
- Fresh Sage (I Used 2 Packages)
- Mozzarella Pearls (or other soft cheeses such as goat cheese)
- Blueberries
- Brown Parchment Paper
- Toothpicks
- Small Pinch Bowls
- 2-Inch Condiment Cups
Substitutions
- You could substitute a hard cheese to fill in spaces but you will not be able to use them for making cheese flowers.
How to Make a Simple Spring Charcuterie Board
Blueberry skewers
- Take a toothpick and thread 4-5 blueberries onto it.
- Repeat for as many skewers as you’d like for your board.
Ham & Salami Roses
- Take a cup and layer 3 pepperoni or thinly sliced Italian salami slices around the edges of the cup.
- Repeat with 2 more slices for the next layer, then 2 more slices for the third layer.
- Flip the cup over on the board and you’re left with a beautiful rose made out of deli meat.
- If you only want a spring meat flower bouquet, you can make lots and lots of these to fill up a tasty board. You could also add bacon roses!
See this post for a picture tutorial of making a pepperoni rose.
Fruit, Cheese, Strawberry & Cucumber Roses
Having juicy strawberries and other fresh berries adds a little sweetness and possibly bright colors to this savory board.
- Make sure the fruit is sliced extremely thin. The slices won’t bend easily to make the rose petals if it is too thick!
- In a condiment cup, start placing slices of fruit around the interior edges of the cup to create your first layer of petals. (Typically 4-5 fruit slices)
- Once your first layer is in place, place 3-4 slices in the cup to create your second layer.
- For your last layer, take a slice and roll it up, then place it in the center. This will give the rose “swirl” in the center!
- For lots of pretty charcuterie flowers, do this entire process for the lemon, blood orange, strawberries, provolone, and cucumber slices.
Again, see this post for a picture tutorial of how to make charcuterie flowers from pepperoni. The process is the same for all of the different meats, cheeses and fruits.
Board Assembly
Now it's time to assemble your Charcuterie Bouquet.
- Place down your deli meat roses first since those take up the most space. You will build your board around the largest items first.
- Place your lemon and blood orange roses since those are the next largest.
- Make sure to space them out evenly.
- Next, add in your strawberry and cucumber roses.
- Once all the roses are placed, fill three small pinch bowls with honey, pistachios, and cashews. Place the bowls on the board, evenly spaced.
- Fill in the extra spaces with red grapes, blueberry skewers, and mozzarella pearls.
- Finally, place the sage leaves around the edges of the board as well as in the center spaces to create the “flower leaves” for the perfect spring charcuterie board. These small touches add vibrant colors and visual appeal to your Spring board!
Pro Tips
- You can use any deli meat for the charcuterie board flowers, but salami and ham are the usual charcuterie board staples! And do get it sliced at the deli for the most delicate thin slices!
- If you cannot find blood oranges, you can use fresh spring fruits such as grapefruit, regular oranges, or limes.
- If you don't like sage, you could use other fresh herbs, snap peas, other other edible greenery to fill in the spaces for "leaves."
- The great thing about the ultimate spring charcuterie board is that you have creative freedom! If you want to add fresh melon or Brie cheese or baguette slices or plain crackers, feel free to add them!
- Because there is meat and cheese on this board, make sure to consume it within 4 hours at room temperature or place those elements in the fridge if not consumed. The same goes for the fruit.
- Skip the fruits for a savory charcuterie board.
