You can easily find all of these ingredients at your local grocery store.

peanut butter butterfinger cookie ingredients
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Baking Soda
  • Salt
  • Butter, softened to room temperature. I use salted butter but unsalted butter works too.
  • Peanut Butter – use creamy peanut butter or all natural peanut butter… just no crunchy or chunky peanut butter.
  • White Sugar
  • Brown Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Egg
  • Butterfinger Baking Bits or crushed Butterfinger Chocolate Candy Bars – the bits are usually found on the baking aisle near the chocolate chips. If you can’t find them, you can use crushed Butterfinger bars. I promise you’ll still have delicious treats (maybe even better?).

Find the full instructions with ingredient measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Ingredient Substitutions

Butterfinger Bars – if you can’t find the Butterfinger bits, you can crush Fun Size or Full-Size candy bars to get around 8 ounces.

The most accurate way is to use a kitchen scale but if you don’t have one, it will take approximately 4 full-size candy bars is equal to the 8-ounce bag of Butterfinger bits. The exact amount is not necessary for this recipe.

As I mentioned, this Butterfinger recipe is a great way to use leftover candy after Halloween!

What do I do with leftover Halloween candy? Do I have to use Butterfingers?

Butterfingers are my favorite for these cookies but the reality is, you could use any leftover chocolate Halloween candy.

Chop up Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers Bars, Twix Bars, Heath Bars, or even turn them into Peanut Butter M&M cookies by throwing in some M&Ms.

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small or medium bowl and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter, peanut butter, and both sugars together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in vanilla and egg.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients (the flour mixture) into the wet ingredients just until combined. Don’t overmix these and beat extra air into the dough!
  6. Stir in the bag of bits. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure they’re evenly distributed in the dough.
  7. Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough and drop dough onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set but the center is still soft.
  9. Remove from oven. Let the chocolate set for 5-7 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Pro Tips

Save a few Butterfinger bits (or pieces of candy bar) to press into the tops of the cookies. This will make them look more gourmet, like bakery cookies!

For more uniform cookies, you can scoop dough with a cookie scoop, but it’s totally not necessary for this recipe for Butterfinger cookies. I promise it will not make a huge difference.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these perfect cookies with a tall glass of milk as an after school snack or weekend dessert. And let me just add this – while they are melt-in-your-mouth delicious the day you bake them, they might be even better the next day (if they last that long).

These are also really good cookies to pack up for holiday gifts!

Storage Directions

Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container or wrap tightly with plastic wrap for up to a week.
