Fruit Salsa with Fresh Whipped Cream
I have to tell you - I can't take credit for this homemade fruit salsa recipe. This Fruit Salsa with Fresh Whipped Cream recipe was all my husband's idea.
I was on my way to the store when I called Richy and asked him what we could make for dessert - something new that would work for a summer cookout.
For the past few weeks, he's been making a lot of fresh salsa out of our garden (it's ah-mazing), so he had the idea to switch it up and make fresh fruit salsa instead with fresh chopped fruits.
We both named off a few different fruits for me to add to my grocery list and voila - this light, refreshing, easy dessert was born! We initially considered eating it with cinnamon sugar pita chips, but then changed to angel food cake.

Delicious Fruit Salsa with Seasonal Fruit
Our tiny hometown grocery store doesn't always have a huge variety of fresh fruit so I had to go with what was available. We ended up with fresh strawberries, apples (two kinds), fresh peaches, and blueberries.
The beauty of this recipe is that you can change up the fruit based on what's in season or available where you live.
If kiwis, grapes, and raspberries had been available, I would've loved to add them. My husband loves pineapple so I think it would've been a great addition to get the flavors of a pineapple salsa.
This easy fruit salsa works with any fresh flavors. Customize the salsa with your favorite fruits, and it'll be perfect! This really is the best fruit salsa recipe!
Why You'll Love this Fruit Salsa with Whipped Cream
- Versatile - use any and all fruits you have and love to make this salsa with your favorite flavors!
- Perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, summer parties, a sweet appetizer, or just the perfect snack!
- Make it ahead of time if you like prepping ahead or make it last minute in a pinch for an impressive dessert or appetizer that the whole family will love!
Tools
- Sharp knife
- Cutting Board
- Medium or Large Mixing Bowl
- Mixer or blender (to make fresh whipped cream)
Ingredients
As I've already mentioned, you can customize this homemade salsa with your favorite fruits or whatever is in season or in your fridge.
But for reference, I will list exactly what I used below. Either way, they're all really common ingredients and it's just so easy to make this sweet salsa.
Fruit Salsa
- Peach
- Granny Smith Apple, peeled
- Pink Lady apple (or any other sweet apple), peeled
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Sugar
- Lime Juice, optional. I don't usually add the lime juice but if you want the contrast of sweet and tart, a squeeze of fresh lime juice or a little lemon juice will give the salsa a little extra punch of flavor.
For the Fresh Whipped Cream
I have a whole post dedicated to making fresh whipped cream here, but it's so easy - I'm sure the instructions in this post will work for you!
How to Make Fruit Salsa with Fresh Whipped Cream
With a little chopping and mixing, this easy recipe is ready to go in a flash.
- So I started by simply dicing the fruit into really small pieces and toss together in a medium mixing bowl. I used a peach, a Granny Smith apple, a Pink Lady apple, 5-6 strawberries, and ½ cup blueberries. You very small pieces for a finely chopped fruit salad.
- Give them a good stir to mix them together.
- Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the top and toss it together again.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- I set that aside to let the salsa rest and the fruit macerate. Then I made the fresh whipped cream.
How to Make Fresh Whipped Cream
Ladies and gents... there's nothing better in the world than fresh whipped cream. When you add it to fresh summery fruit salsa- it's seriously a match made in heaven.
- Use the whisk attachment on your stand mixer or an immersion blender.
- Add all ingredients to a bowl and whip until stiff peaks form.
- Top the colorful salsa with the whipped cream and enjoy, or use it as a topping on cake, cheesecake, or a cream pie.
Serving Suggestions for Dessert Salsa
So many recipes for fruit salsa suggest that this sweet fruit salsa recipe is only for serving with cinnamon pita chips or homemade cinnamon tortilla chips. But y'all... there are so many more ways to enjoy this tropical fruit salsa!!
For my family, the younger boys and my husband preferred eating the Fruit Salsa with Fresh Whipped Cream by itself. It's like a fresh fruit salad with whipped cream.
The other kids and I used it as the perfect topping on slices of pound cake. Yum-Yum! But still, there are so many more options.
Serve it with any of the following:
- Angel Food Cake
- Graham Crackers or Cinnamon Graham Crackers
- Cinnamon Crisps made with flour tortillas
- Ice Cream
- Cheesecake or these Easy Cheesecake Cups
- Serve it with fruit dip on top (instead of whipped cream)
- Use it on shrimp tacos or fish tacos (where you'd typically see peach salsa, mango salsa or pineapple salsa)
This fresh fruit with whipped cream dessert is perfect for summertime - it's light and refreshing and easy! And nothing screams summertime more than dessert with whipped cream and fruit. Great for an afternoon BBQ or snack with friends by the poolside.
Storage Directions
If you make this ahead of time or have leftovers, fruit salsa can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days
