I have been neck-deep in Minnie and Mickey Mouse cakes over the past few weeks… so I figured (since I’m working on another tonight), I’d go ahead and share this one I made last October.
I’ve done all of Autumn & Aniston’s birthday cakes… here’s their 1st Birthday Owl Cakes and then their third birthday cake I did just a few weeks ago here on Facebook. It’s always fun when I’m able to watch little ones grow up through doing their cakes year after year!
So, let me tell you about this cake from last year!
First up, it was 6″ and 8″ round cakes… strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream. All of the decorations (except the black) were done with homemade marshmallow fondant and the black was Satin Ice Black Vanilla Fondant.
For the second tier, I did polka dots using a small round cutter and the border was done with the FMM Ribbon cutter (one of my most favorite tools!). For the plaque, I used one of these plaque cookie cutters.
I found a Disney font I found with a Swagbucks search (like this) and I free-hand copied it onto the fondant plaque using food markers. It took 3 tries to get it right, but I was happy with it finally!
And then there was the topper! I love doing bows (as much as I love doing ruffles!), so I just added the bow in front of some Minnie ears and called it a day! I have a tutorial here for how I make Mickey/Minnie Mouse ears for cakes and a tutorial for a similar bow here.
So… do you have any questions about this cake? If so, as always… leave me a comment!
