Have you seen the Tiktok Viral Egg Flight Trend? Egg Flights are a fantastic twist on deviled eggs (and so much more!). They are hard-boiled eggs, sliced in half, topped with mayo and mustard, then loaded with other delicious toppings, turned into a unique, high-protein meal or snack.
The varieties I made are BLT Egg Flight, Chicken Salad Egg Flight, Caprese Egg Flight, & Breakfast Egg Flight.

What is an Egg Flight?
This is exactly the question I asked my friend Jamie, who introduced me to this viral TikTok trending food. She is so much more Tiktok-savvy than I am and well... this is what she said to me:
"I need you to do more Tiktoking Rose. It’s hard-boiled eggs with different toppings on each. They call it an “egg flight.” Tiktoks eating it up right now and trying to create as many combos as they can."
Yeah, I'm not really on "the Tiktok" all that much (mostly never). And after getting on Tiktok to look up Egg Flights, I know why I avoid it.
No wonder people are so obsessed... I ended up watching egg videos into the wee hours of the morning, and there were still thousands of videos I had never watched.
I don't have enough time in my life to watch Tiktok all day (or night). But nevertheless, I knew I had to try Egg Flights. I had been influenced.
Egg Flight Trend
So Egg Flights are boiled eggs (mostly hard-boiled, but some influencers are doing soft-boiled eggs too), cut in half, and then dressed with mayo and mustard (like the flavor of a deviled egg, but easier). But you don't stop there...
After the mayo and mustard, other toppings are added to make them into a meal. It seems like the idea is to have a filling, high-protein meal loaded with flavor, but I've also seen everything from Chick-fil-A eggs to Taco eggs to Sushi eggs and a thousand other ideas.
I quickly learned that Alice Choi of Hip Foodie Mom made Egg Flights famous, and she is the queen of them. I watched a dozen of her videos and dozens of others and came up with a list of Egg Flight recipes that I wanted to try.
Egg Flight Ideas
My list was too long to include them all in one post, so I narrowed it down for the blog. Today, I'm sharing four Egg Flight recipes with you. But I still wanted to share my list because some sound SO good, and I hope to try more soon!
Note: When I say "mayo" in this list, I am talking about Kewpie mayo, which seems to be the go-to mayo for all Egg Flights! Having said that, I'm sure regular mayo would be just fine!
- (Maybe the) Original Egg Flight - Kewpie Mayo, Mustard, Gorgonzola Cheese, Balsamic Glaze, Pickled Onions (Alice Choi has a famous a recipe for these, too).
- Classic: Mayo, Mustard, Dill Pickle (or Spicy Dill Pickle), Fresh Dill, Paprika (most like a deconstructed Deviled Egg)
- Cobb Salad Egg Flight - Mayo, Mustard, Deli Turkey, Bread & Butter Pickles, Lettuce, Bacon, Tomato, Cherry Tomato
- Pimento Cheese Egg Flight - Pimento Cheese (regular or spicy or bacon pimento cheese), Kewpie Mayo, Pickled Jalapeno or Trader Joe's Hot & Sweet Jalapenos (these are super popular with egg flights but I don't live near a Trader Joe's so I haven't tried them)
- Caprese Egg Flight - Wedge of Mozzarella, Tomato, Fresh Basil Leaf, Balsamic Glaze
- Cottage Cheese Egg Flight with Cherry Tomato, Sunflower Seeds, Black Pepper
- Charcuterie Egg Flight - Mayo, Mustard, Slice of Hard Salami, a Pepperoni, Slice of Cheddar, Pickle
- Breakfast Egg Flight - Bacon or Crumbled Sausage, Cheese, Mayo, Mustard, Mini Pancake, Drizzle of Syrup or Spicy Jelly (pictured above here - this ended up being my FAVE!!)
- Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Popper Egg Flight - Mayo, Mustard, Bacon, Cream Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Hot & Sweet Jalapeno (and/or Hot Honey)
- Sushi Egg Flight - Cream Cheese, Crab Stick (with Spicy Mayo), Cucumber, Panko Bread Crumbs, Eel Sauce (or Soy Sauce)
More Egg Flights (because my list kept going...)
- Chicken Salad Egg Flight - Kewpie Mayo, Mustard, Mayo Mustard, Bread & Butter Pickle
- Bloody Mary Egg Flight - dip in Old Bay and Paprika, Mayo, Slice of Green Onion, Slice of Onion, Bacon (for the record, I would never eat this, but it's SO popular on Tiktok)
- Street Taco Egg Flight - Fire Roasted Corn, Mayo, Mustard, Cojeta Cheese, Tajin Seasoning
- BLT Egg Flight - Mayo, Mustard, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato - maybe a pickled onion and ranch dressing to add some tang and creamy texture.
- Salmon Bagel - Cream Cheese, Everything Bagel Seasoning, Mayo or Everything Bagel with Mayo, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Everything Bagel Seasoning
Seriously, if I thought about it for long enough, I could probably list a dozen more, but those are the notes I took.
Tools
Nothing special is needed for these egg bites!
- Small Pot
- Slotted Spoon
- Sharp Knife
- Serving Platter
- Mixing Bowls
Ingredients
Don't be overwhelmed by the list below. You probably have a lot of these ingredients already on hand, and you can totally customize Egg Flights based on what you have, what you like, or what you want to shop for.
- Hard-boiled eggs (or soft-boiled if you like them like that but most Egg flights use hard-boiled)
- Salt & Pepper
- Kewpie Mayo - regular mayo would be totally fine. Kewpie is more rich and has a slightly different flavor but it's nothing life-changing.
- Mustard
- Dijon Mustard
- Prepared Chicken Salad
- Bread & Butter Pickles
- Lettuce
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Bacon (cooked crispy)
- Mozzarella
- Basil
- Smoked Sausage (cooked)
- Cheddar Cheese
- Pancake Batter (these are my favorite buttermilk pancakes, but you'll only need a tiny amount)
- Pepper Jelly (or Pancake Syrup)
- Balsamic Glaze
Perfect Boiled Egg
The beginning of every Egg Flight recipe is a perfectly boiled egg (or three). Here's my formula for that:
- Gently place eggs in a single layer in a boiler - with plenty of room for them to move around (don't pack them in tight).
- Fill the pot with cool water to cover the eggs plus about an inch more of water.
- Bring to a hard boil, then turn the heat down to very low and let them cook for 10 minutes.
- While the eggs are boiling, prepare an ice bath with a couple of cups of ice and enough water to cover them.
- When the 10-minute timer goes off, use a slotted spatula to gently lift the boiled eggs out of the simmering water and place them directly in the ice bath for 3-5 minutes.
- Peel them under cool running water.
- Enjoy immediately or chill to save for later.
You could make Instant Pot Boiled Eggs if you want - they also come out perfect every time and don't require you to babysit boiling water on the stovetop!
How to Make Egg Flights
As you can see from my list above, the possibilities for these egg creations are endless, but the four I chose are a Breakfast Egg Flight, a Caprese Egg Flight, a BLT Egg Flight, and a Chicken Salad Egg Flight.
Alice Choi usually makes 3 boiled eggs and does 2 halves of each flavor. I wanted a little more variety, and I don't think I could eat 3 whole boiled eggs (with toppings) in one sitting, so I settled on two eggs and four different flavors (one flavor for each egg half).
In the future, I'll probably pick one flavor to make at a time for a snack or lunch.
Prepare the Eggs for Toppings
- First, cut each hard-boiled egg in half and place it on the serving tray.
- Sprinkle each with salt and pepper.
- Top with mayo and mustard (details below).
Now, here are the instructions for each one I made:
Breakfast Egg Flight
- Prepare your mini pancake. I placed about ¼ a cup of pancake batter into a piping bag. I piped a small amount (about ½ a tablespoon) onto a well greased hot skillet. I did several, then picked the best one, and saved the rest for the kiddos! Let them cook until the edges are cooked through. Flip and cook until both sides are slightly browned. Remove from heat.
- Make sure your slice of bacon and sausage is cooked and ready to go.
- Top a slice of egg with a dollop of mayo and mustard.
- Place your ½ slice of bacon, slice of sausage, shredded cheese, and prepared pancake on your egg.
- Top with pepper jelly (or a drizzle of pancake syrup).
Chicken Salad Egg Flight
- Top a slice of egg with a dollop of mayo and mustard.
- Place your chicken salad and pickle on the egg.
BLT Egg Flight
- Top a slice of egg with a dollop of mayo and Dijon mustard.
- Place the lettuce, ½ a slice of bacon, and one cherry tomato (sliced in half) on top!
- I wish I'd drizzled some ranch dressing over this one... the creaminess added SO much yum!
Caprese Egg Flight
- Top a slice of egg with a dollop of mayo.
- Place a wedge of fresh mozzarella, a halved cherry tomato and basil leaf on an egg with just mayo. Drizzle wit balsamic glaze. *I forgot any step-by-step photos for this one, but I'm confident you can figure it out 😊
Serve and enjoy this delicious twist on deviled eggs!
Tips & Varieties
Use your imagination, TikTok, or your fridge's contents to get inspiration and create countless varieties of these delicious eggs.
Serving Suggestions
My favorite way to enjoy these is as a quick, high-protein snack, breakfast, or lunch. But they'd also be perfect for a party (make a whole tray of them) in different varieties as an appetizer!
Deviled Egg Bar
Another fantastic and fun idea is to have a Deviled Egg Bar with toppings and pre-boiled eggs so everyone can create their own Egg Flights!
