M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies
Without a doubt, my family's favorite cookie is a chocolate chip cookie. After trying many chocolate chip cookie recipes over the years, we settled on this chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe, and we've made it countless times over many years. They are the best chocolate chip cookies.
But then last year I enjoyed some amazing homemade M&M cookies, and decided I needed to add a great recipe for M&M cookies to my recipe box as well. This M&M cookie recipe makes thick cookies that are also chewy cookies with crispy edges.
Original M&M Cookies
Does anyone know if there's an "original" recipe for a cookie like this? I always like to go back to classic recipes when I can but I couldn't find an M & M cookies original recipe or m&m cookies recipe from bag, so I had to come up with my own.
Again, I wanted thicker cookies with a chewy center plus the extra crunch and color on top of the cookie.
And this one makes fantastic Chocolate Chip and M&M Cookies that look SO pretty and fun!! That's why this recipe makes the perfect giant M&M cookies. I mean - they are eye candy and actual delicious cookies and they're Monster M&M Cookies.
Why You'll Love these M&M Cookies
- They're giant Monster cookies but the recipe only makes a dozen, so you won't have a ton of leftovers.
- There's no chill time - they can go straight from the mixing bowl to the oven.
- They're a versatile, festive treat - use Christmas M&Ms around the holidays, Easter M&M's in the Spring or Red, White & Blue M&M's for the patriotic holidays. I think they even make pink and red M&M's for Valentine's Day now! Cookies with M&Ms are perfect for every occasion!
- Change them up by using dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate ch,ips or white chocolate chips in these gooey cookies. You could also use mini chocolate chips in this recipe!
- You get the best of two worlds: chocolate chip cookies with M&Ms.
Equipment Needed
You probably have every tool you need already on hand for these Chocolate Chip M&M's cookies!
- Cookie Sheet
- Parchment Paper
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Electric Mixer - I prefer my Bosch Mixer OR
- Large Mixing Bowl and Electric Hand Mixer
- Large Cookie Scoop
- Wire Rack
Ingredients
One reason this M&M's cookies recipe is a family favorite is because we can make them pretty much anytime a craving hits. Why? Because all of the ingredients for these M and M cookies are staples in our pantry! Incuding the M&M's!
- Butter, at room temperature - I always use salted butter, but unsalted butter would work just as well. I shouldn't have to say this, but you must use real butter - no margarine or substitutes!
- All-purpose flour
- Brown sugar - I prefer light brown sugar but dark brown sugar would also be yummy.
- Mini M&M Candies
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips - if you prefer milk chocolate chips, they would also work in this recipe but they're a little too sweet for our taste.
- Sea salt - regular salt works just as well
- Vanilla extract - I use homemade vanilla extract but store-bought is great too!
- Egg - a large egg at room temperature
- Corn Starch
- Baking soda

How to Make M&M Cookies
These M&Ms Cookies are really easy to make so let's get started!!
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
- In a large bowl of a stand mixer, cream butter and brown sugar together until smooth and free of lumps. Be sure you're using room-temperature butter for the creamiest mixture.
- Add in the egg and vanilla then mix all the wet ingredients until incorporated.
- Add in the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch and mix with the paddle attachment until a dough forms.
- Mix in the chocolate chips and ⅓ of the M&M's.
- Using a large cookie scoop, scoop cookie dough balls and roll until smooth. This recipe yields 12 large cookies.
- Roll the tops in the remaining M&M candies (this is the best part!) and place on the prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart.
- Bake on the center rack for 10-12 minutes (tops will be golden and insides will be chewy).
- Move to a cooling rack and allow to cool then enjoy a perfect cookie!
Pro Tips
- Always bake with room-temperature ingredients unless the recipe specifically says otherwise!
- The center of the cookies will be gooey right out of the oven. They are not underbaked, they just need time to set while cooling. Just make sure the tops are golden brown and adjust the bake time if you need to, to get this result.
- For this mini M&M Cookies recipe, you can also use regular-sized M&M Candies; I just like how you can fit more on the tops of the cookies when you use mini M&Ms. You could even switch things up and add some peanut butter flavor with peanut butter chips or Reese's Pieces.
- If you don't have a large cookie scoop, you could use a ¼ cup measuring cup to measure out the dough then roll it into a ball.
Storage Directions
Store any leftover Giant M&M Cookies an airtight container or a ziploc bag or freezer bag for 3-4 days before they become dry and crumbly. You could also store cookies on a plate and cover them tightly with plastic wrap.
Serving Suggestions
One of my favorite things in the whole world is to eat warm fresh-baked cookies while drinking a tall, cold glass of milk.
I'm not alone, right?
These would be perfect for dessert, an after-school snack, a bake sale, a workplace treat, or a classroom party (you will probably need to double the recipe).
