I absolutely love white hot chocolate and nothing is better than homemade hot chocolate, so this recipe was a no-brainer for me. Melted white chocolate chips with milk, vanilla, and heavy cream make the dreamiest white chocolate hot chocolate. By adding peppermint extract (which is optional), your hot chocolate will taste like pastel buttermintsmmmm!

How to Make Grinch Hot Chocolate

Making this creamy green hot chocolate drink only takes a few minutes and a few ingredients. 

  1. Melt the white chocolate chips in your saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Once completely melted, heat your milk in the microwave until warm, about 60 seconds, then pour the hot milk into the saucepan with the melted white chocolate, and continue stirring constantly.
  3. Next, pour in the heavy cream, vanilla, peppermint extract, and a few drops of green food coloring to get the perfect green Grinch color, continue stirring until well mixed and hot.
  4. Pour into your favorite glass mugs, so you can see the green, then add whipped cream, candy hearts on top of the whipped cream, and enjoy!

Variations and Substitutions

  • White Chocolate Chips. White chocolate chips can sometimes be hard to melt (depending on the brand). Other alternatives are white baking chocolate, white candy melts or green candy melts (easier to melt but not pure chocolate). 
  • Peppermint Extract. If you want to skip this extract (or you don’t have any on hand) you could stir your hot beverage with candy canes to add peppermint flavor.
  • Other Toppings:
  • Whipped Cream. You can use canned whipped cream for ease, or make fresh homemade whipped cream.

Slow Cooker Grinch Hot Chocolate

This recipe can absolutely be made in your slow cooker or crock pot. Here’s how:

  1. Combine the white chocolate chips, milk, heavy cream, and extracts in your slow cooker.
  2. Cook over low heat for 1 to 1 ½ hours, stirring frequently to ensure the chocolate melts slowly and evenly.
  3.  Once the chocolate has fully melted, add food coloring gradually, stirring until you get the perfect Grinch green.
  4. Top your delicious Grinch Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles!
