Grinch Shot Recipe
Grinch Drinks are the perfect way to add a festive touch and lots of fun to your Christmas party!
I think it goes without saying that Grinch Shots need to be green, which is why this Grinch cocktail recipe uses Midori. It adds both a sweet, fruity flavor and vibrant color to the Grinch drink!
And in place of the red heart that usually represents Grinch treats, these Grinch Jello Shots have a bright red Maraschino cherry as garnish for Grinch's heart.
These Grinch Shots are perfect for Christmas parties or other holiday celebrations - they will be a huge hit for your guests!

What is Midori?
I mentioned Midori above and just incase you didn't know, Midori is a bright green color. It's a melon-flavored liqueur from Japan, made with sweet muskmelons. It's popular in cocktails for its vibrant color and delightfully fruity flavor!
The bright color is what drew me in - it is perfect for the Grinch cocktail and the holiday season!
Tools Needed
- Jigger
- Cocktail Shaker
- 4 2-Ounce Shot Glasses - glass or plastic shot glasses work!
Ingredients
Your grocery store may not have these three simple ingredients for this Grinch drink recipe, but a liquor store likely will. If you're having trouble finding one of the liquors (or you prefer different flavors), see the Pro Tips below for other options.
- Midori
- Coconut Rum
- Maraschino Cherries
How to Make Grinch Shots
- Combine the Midori and coconut rum in a cocktail shaker.
- Lightly shake, then pour evenly into 4 shot glasses (or more for smaller glasses).
- Place a stemless cherry in the bottom of each glass, either before or after pouring for a perfect Grinchy presentation! Note: you can place the cherries in the bottom of each shot glass before pouring!
Pro Tips
- Smaller shot glasses work just as well - the mixture will still be even either way.
- These shots can be prepared ahead of time and stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator.. While they can be kept at room temperature, chilling them in the fridge yields a fresher taste. If prepping ahead, wait to add the cherries until serving.
- Not a fan of coconut rum? You can substitute it with another clear alcohol, but be aware that it will significantly change the taste of the shot.
- No Midori? Any green melon liqueur works, or try Green Hawaiian Punch or prepared green Kool-Aid for a sweeter shot.
- If you want cold shots and also want to serve immediately, chill your ingredients beforehand and shake with ice, then strain the ice cubes out.
- For a family-friendly version, you might choose to make Grinch Punch instead 🙂 - it's a Grinch Christmas drink without alcohol!
Serving Suggestions
Serve this Christmas drink at a holiday party or small get-together. Either way, a Grinch shot is so much fun!
