Peach Salsa

Y’all… it is peach season, and I could not be more excited about it!!

Peach cobbler will always have my heart, but this easy peach salsa recipe might be my new favorite way to enjoy fresh ripe peaches during the summer months.

This fresh peach salsa recipe is sweet and juicy, with a strong peach flavor and a little kick from the jalapeno (add more if you love spicy salsa). It’s a fun way to switch things up from regular tomato salsa.

Tools Needed

Ingredients

This fresh peach salsa is so easy to make and is a great way to use up fresh fruits!

ingredients for peach salsa
  • Peaches – You’ll want fresh peaches that are ripe, but not too ripe. Super soft peaches will turn to mush when you try to peel and dice them, so look for ones that give just slightly when you press them. The ripeness of the peaches really matters here!
  • Red onion – Red onion adds a little bite and gorgeous color. Only able to find large red onions at the store? Just use a quarter of one and make sure it’s finely diced. See how to dice an onion here.
  • Red bell pepper – Feel free to use red, yellow, or orange bell peppers… whatever you have or whatever’s on sale works!
  • Roma tomato – You can use other types of tomatoes too, just aim for something on the smaller to medium side. Not as tiny as grape or cherry tomatoes, but not as big as a beefsteak tomato either.
  • Jalapeno – One small jalapeno pepper, deseeded and minced, gives this salsa its hint of spicy without setting your mouth on fire.
  • Lime juice – Fresh lime juice brightens everything up and keeps the peaches from browning.
  • Salt – This is optional! Using it? Sea salt or regular table salt works best, or kosher salt if that’s what you’ve got.

Pro Tips

  • Dice everything into smaller-than-bite-sized pieces so you get a little bit of everything in each scoop.
  • Love cilantro? Feel free to stir in up to 1/4 cup of fresh cilantro! (No judgment either way… I know people have strong feelings about cilantro🙂)
  • Let the salsa chill in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving so the flavors have time to mingle. It’s delicious right away, but even better after a little rest.
  • Yellow peaches are my go-to for the best flavor, but white peaches work too… they’re just a little sweeter and more mellow.

Variations

  • Take it up a notch. Want a spicy peach salsa recipe? Leave some of the jalapeño seeds in, or go wild and swap in habanero peppers if you really love spicy flavors!
  • Add garlic. A minced garlic clove or two adds a savory little punch.
  • Season it up. A dash of chili powder or a little black pepper is delicious if you want a deeper flavor.
  • Switch the fruit. Love fruit salsa in general? Try swapping the peaches for mango to make mango salsa, or use strawberries for a strawberry salsa. Same idea, whole new snack!
  • No limes? Fresh lemons work in a pinch… lemon juice will give you a slightly different tang, but it’s still yummy.

FAQ

How fine do I need to dice the ingredients?Dice everything into smaller than bite-sized pieces. You want to be able to scoop up a little of everything on one chip!

Can I use a food processor instead of dicing by hand? You can, but be really careful… a few quick pulses is all it takes before ripe peaches turn to mush. Hand-dicing with a good sharp knife gives you those pretty, chunky pieces, so that’s what I recommend.

Will this recipe always make 3 cups of salsa? Not exactly! The amount will differ depending on the size of your produce, but it should land somewhere around 3 cups… possibly a little more or less.

What should I serve peach salsa with?Tortilla chips are the obvious answer (and a delicious one!), but it’s also a great topping for fish tacos, grilled chicken, pork chops, or even scrambled eggs.

Can I use canned or frozen peaches?Fresh ripe peaches really are best here for both flavor and texture. Making this in the middle of peach season with fresh peaches is the way to go!

Wrapping It Up

There’s just something about fresh salsa made with summer produce… it makes me so happy! This peach salsa is fresh, juicy, refreshing, and just spicy enough, and I hope it becomes a summer staple at your house like the easy recipes always do at mine.

Make it your own… add the cilantro, spice it up, or keep it simple just like it’s written. You really can’t go wrong!
