Honey Bun Ice Cream

My kids love Little Debbie Honey Buns (one of my sons in particular might be addicted, ahem, Caleb). Since I started a series of homemade versions for the new Little Debbie Ice Cream flavors a few years ago, I figured it was about time I added a recipe for Honey Bun Ice Cream.

This ice cream is one of my favorites. It has a creamy vanilla ice cream base with a honey butter glaze and chunks of Little Debbie Honey Buns. It’s not too sweet, but the textures are perfect and addictive.

Little Debbie’s Ice Cream Story

I first made and shared Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes Ice cream back in December of 2020. You can read about that here.

Fast forward to February 2022—Little Debbie announced an exciting continuation of their partnership with the family-owned Hudsonville Ice Cream. Together, they were rolling out a full line of ice creams inspired by classic Little Debbie snack cakes.

This dreamy lineup includes favorites like Oatmeal Creme Pies Ice Cream, Cosmic Brownies Ice Cream, Zebra Cakes Ice Cream, Star Crunch Ice Cream, Swiss Rolls Ice Cream, Honey Buns Ice Cream, Strawberry Shortcake Rolls Ice Cream, and of course, the beloved Nutty Bars Ice Cream.

Swoon. Seriously.

I’m slowly trying my hand at homemade versions of all these flavors. Today I’m adding Honey Bun Ice Cream to this list:

If you’re like me and haven’t had luck finding the official versions of Little Debbie’s ice cream in the freezer aisle of your store, give this homemade recipe a shot—I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Pro Tips

Use a silicone loaf panIf you want to skip the parchment paper, make the ice cream in a silicone loaf pan. This makes removing it from the pan very easy.

Be Patient. You can’t rush the freezing time. At a minimum, the ice cream needs to freeze for 6 hours, but preferably overnight (or at least 8 hours) for the best texture.

Warm Honey Bun. Pop a honey bun in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm it up, then add a scoop of the honey bun ice cream on top – you’ll be in heaven!

Serving Suggestions

Serve on a warm honey bun as suggested or you might also top it with some fresh whipped cream.

Or serve in a sugar cone or waffle cone – yum!
